No I wasn't,... the only confusing element of my statement was that Sgt.Rock used to carry and fire a 30 cal from the standing possition in Comic Books.

I moved it up to a 50 to aid Nicks imagination scenario,... as larger than life.

A single person could fire any one of the above mentioned weapons, standing, by hand, the 30 cal is much more believable at a sustained rate of fire and most cartoon heros, find this weapon, in the heat of battle and perhaps some real heros have, but not the 50, way to much recoil withou being screwed down , even Arnold in Predator was unrealistic with that chain gun.

Uhhh.....I think you're confusing me with someone else arguing guns and bullets here. Not my thing. If we argue bows and crossbows, that's another story. In the market for a nice recurve myself.

Anyway, ethnicity played no part in my "cultural aspects" statement, though I think that could be successfully argued also. The black-on-black crime rate, particularly murder, is obscene.

of course. the majority of guns used in crimes aren't stolen. somebody buys them legally and then illegally sells them to the criminal elements. now, yes, if you started restricting gun sales today, there'd still be plenty of supply for gun crime tomorrow. but eventually they'd get more scarce. is that the right policy to pursue? maybe, maybe not. but it should at least be discussed.

I think the reality is you are going to have to put up with the possibility of more crime to have more freedom. I went to the Soviet Union in 1978 when it was still communist. There was no crime in Moscow. My dad left an expensive camera in the hotel restaurant and the waiter came right up to the hotel room and with the camera. In Fishkill, New York my dad was checking into a motel and made the mistake of leaving his camera on the seat of the car and just in the time it took to go into the front office and rent a room someone had smashed the window and stolen the camera.

Then my wife and I went to Russia in the mid 1990's and the crime in Moscow was horrid. There were all these gypsies and pickpockets. Gangster crime. To be honest, the city was better for a tourist in the old communist days and I hate communism.

So yeah, we can have soviet style policing in the US and deter the crime but is that a better way of life? I don't think so.

Mexico has very strict gun laws. You can go to jail for just having an empty round casing in your car. That doesn't seem to stop the criminals there from getting them and full automatic ones at that. Of course Eric Holder and others in our government seem to be more than happy to help the gun supply and the Mexican president seems to take no offense either. It seems like the politicians today want to disarm the law abiding citizens and give the criminals guns. Talk about insane.
