Double digit tax rates, runaway inflation, and growing trade deficits were just part of the problem. Within 4 years, the economy was booming. RR put more money back into the hands of ordinary citizens by cutting taxes and putting the tax code into sensible reform with a top tax rate of only 28% (with fewer loopholes, mind you.)

Ummhmmm, actually, it was Carter who inherited a shitty economy from everyone's favorite Crooked Republican, Nixon. Ford was only too happy to hand it to Carter, and as Carter rode out the storm and started putting in place policy, Reagan got the credit, just like for the Hostages' release.

Um, the economy under Reagan's first term got substantially worse and we didn't officially enter a recession until months after Reagan took office...you can't have it both ways...
