Cars are charged registration and given inspections, and drivers are licensed because you're going to use the public infrastructure with the vehicle. The taxes are to help pay for the roads and administration, the license is to make sure you understand the laws and use of the vehicle before you're put on the public transit system.
They don't check to see if you have any mental instability before giving you a drivers license -- they check your eyesight, and give you a paper test on the laws.Comment

Concealed carrier permits doesn't prevent you from owning a gun. Neither does a trigger lock law. Background checks only prevent felons(I think), which have already forfeited some of their rights by committing a felony.
I'm not opposed to reasonable regulations -- but I think the car analogy isn't a good analogy for this subject.
If you want to change the 2nd amendment, the process is pretty straight forward. Get the country to pass an amendment changing it. Good luck with that.
I don't own a gun, but I don't think handguns or ARs are the right type of gun if you want something for home defense. I know people that have them and they use them for 1 thing -- having fun at the shooting range. And good for them, there's nothing wrong with that. If I were to get a gun for home defense, I'd get a shotgun. I don't want to spray my house full of bullets in the dark when I think someone is intruding and risk hitting my family. With a shotgun, you don't need a light to get their attention and let them know you're armed. You might not even need to shoot. All you have to do is cock the gun. There is no mistaking that distinctive sound and it will get the point across and be understood very quickly.Comment

One is also forced (more or less) to go through training, pay insurance, and submit to constant monitoring under the public transportation system.
And, I could own a surface to air missile system like the cool fucking gangsta Patriot system! And you know what? I want one! So why can the gov't tell me I can't have it!? I promise I won't use any public infrastructure with it!
