    As I said it perhaps serves a legal function for kids but if you want to take the government out of it then go ahead.

    Until that time though it should obviously be open to gay people too.

      The ideal thing would be if documents like birth certificate, adoption papers, custody papers would serve the legal function to kids. Take the goverment out of it, sure you can have the ceremony on your spare time if you wish, just like you do other traditional things. Then the government would lose the power of deciding how you should live.

      Of course. The only ones who are against it are christians who see marriage as something else then a legal document.
