Lake Superior could rise nearly a foot thanks to ice cover



ANN ARBOR, MI (AP)-- The aftermath of the long, frigid winter continues to affect Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes.

A research team funded partly by the University of Michigan finds that surface water temperatures over the deepest sections of the lake are expected to be at least 6 degrees colder than normal by August.

That will delay the point at which heavy evaporation begins, which will boost water levels faster than normal.

Climatologist John Lenters of Ann Arbor-based Limno Tech says the result could be a water-level gain of up to 10 inches by next spring, although much will depend on amounts of rain and snow between now and then.

Water levels also are expected to rise in the other Great Lakes, continuing the recovery from a prolonged low-water period.

The National Weather Service in Marquette posted this on June 1st:



The Marquette Mining-Journal newspaper reports that according to some forecasts, the ice may last until July...

"To many area residents who suffered through one of the worst winters on record for the area, seeing the ice chunks on the lake every day is a continuing reminder of that wintry grip of Mother Nature, which still has yet to completely loosen."

They are no longer selling "Global Warming". It's obvious why that didn't sell. Now the new marketing pitch is "Climate Change". Somehow paying higher taxes will make the climate better. Making the 1% richer will magically save the planet. David deRothschild says so.

When grants, careers, junkets, book sales, and offers to sit on golden commissions are on the line, it doesn’t take much motivated reasoning to find excuses to believe your work is “science” even as you ignore opportunities to follow data that doesn’t quite fit, or delay publications of inconvenient graphs, while you double check, triple check, and invite like-minded colleagues to help find reasons the graphs are not important.
