This is the entire point of Fundagelical "Christianity" - The pastor cherry picks a verse or two every Sunday (and Wednesday night prayer meetings for many of them) and twists them into his own (usually political) agenda, rather than reading the entire bible from Genesis to Revelation in the proper context.

For example, if you hear your pastor giving the "End of the World" sermon, and he's tying prophecies from the Old Testament book of Daniel to prophecies in the New Testament book of Revelation, how are you going to be able to trust what he says about it, if you haven't read them both yourself.

Of course this is where the fundagelicals justify this with another scripture quote taken out of context and tell you to "lean not unto your own understanding". And that the pastor, being a holy man, has exclusive rights to interpret scripture however he wants to, and God wants you to take that as the final word.

Well fuck that shit. If God gave me a brain, then He expects me to use it, read all the information available, and fucking decide for myself what it means. And I'm fully prepared to say so when I stand before Him on Judgement Day. If He's gonna send me to Hell for using my brain, then so be it, and just give me a fucking air conditioner. I'm not going to be a blind follower of anybody else's flawed interpretation.
