US President Barack Obama says a controversial oil pipeline in North Dakota could be re-routed.

[b]Obama: Controversial Dakota pipeline could be re-routed

US President Barack Obama has said a controversial oil pipeline in North Dakota which has seen months of protests could be re-routed.

In an interview, the president said he would allow the conflict to play out for "several more weeks" to see if the issue could be resolved.

The controversial Dakota Access pipeline crosses an area near a Native American reservation.
Riot police armed with pepper spray clashed with protesters on Wednesday.
In an interview with NowThis News, President Obama said his administration was monitoring the clashes closely.

"My view is that there is a way for us to accommodate sacred lands of native Americans," he said, "and I think that right now the Army Corps is examining whether there are ways to re-route this pipeline."
When asked about the use of force against protesters, Mr Obama said it was a "challenging situation" and likened it to other mass protests such as the Black Lives Matter movement.

"There is an obligation for protesters to be peaceful, and there's an obligation for authorities to show restraint," he said.
"I want to make sure that as everybody is exercising their constitutional rights to be heard, that both sides are refraining from situations that might result in people being hurt."
Earlier on Wednesday, protesters had attempted to build a wooden bridge across the Cannonball river to land owned by the pipeline developer.
"The US Army Corps of Engineers has given Morton County orders to remove the bridge and arrest any individuals who cross the river for criminal trespass," the Morton County Sherriff's Department said in a statement.
Several protesters entered the water for an extended time during the clashes, leading to some being treated for hypothermia.

The original route was supposed to go through Bismarck which is considerably northeast of the reservation. But of course, white folks live there and they don't want that toxic shit going through THEIR land.

My preference, of course, is not to build the fucking thing at all.

I gotta agree with you there. I think we have the technology to go electric with just about everything and end our dependence on foreign oil. I foresee a future somewhat like the one in Demolition Man but I don't think I could get used to wiping my ass with sea shells either.

Our "dependence on foreign oil" is political. We have as much more more oil under us in North America.

Yeah, but people would rather send money to Saudi Arabia than build some fuckin pipelines here and drill our own.

Electric cars and solar and wind power sound really cool. But I have to drive to the beer store tonite and my cars run on gas. Today. So I want some damn gas. Lots of it. And cheaper than hell would be good too.

True or not we still need to change our ways and eventually phase out vehicles that run on petroleum based fuel.

The price of gas has been pretty reasonable for quite a while now. So reasonable a lot of people are going to be extremely bummed when the prices start rising again because good gas mileage wasn't a priority when they purchased their primary vehicle or moved to a certain area or took a job farther away from home that they won't be able to afford to drive to and have enough money left to pay the bills. When I got laid off in 06 the price of gas in California was nearing record highs. Jobs were scarce in my hometown because nobody was quitting to move on to greener pastures because there were none. Finding a job I could afford to commute to that paid a decent wage was damn near impossible. That's gonna happen again and when it does a lot of people are going to lose everything a little bit at a time just like I did.

                              Why?

What kind of fuel are you going to use to fuel the power plants that make the electricity? Our grid is already on the ragged edge, and power plants are being decommissioned faster than they're being built.

Windmills? Ha ha ha! They have motors in them! Motors that need maintenance! They are made of steel that rusts! They are breeding and distributing mold into the air and onto crops and communities, at a rate your Government does not want you to know about!

Solar? Can't store it long enough. How long do the panels last? How do we dispose of, or recycle them? Are they environmentally friendly after they wear out?

Batteries for these electric cars, trucks, trains and heavy equipment. Where are we going to dispose or recycle those? How environmentally friendly are they when their life is up? How long will they last?

How you gonna make the solar panels, batteries and anything else, without fossil fuels?

You fucking guys that like to spout off about "sheep" are the biggest sheep of them all.

"Green" is another fucking scam perpetuated by your Government, to line their pockets, while leading you around by your nose.
