I'm kind of leaning towards the Explorer...though I've seen some cool ones with Strat heads...then I should do some complete throwback graphic finish on it , since it probably won't leave the house...can't see myself using it for gigs...

Well the early Voyagers did have Strat headstocks.

It's funny, I looooove the Strat body, and the headstock, but I have never been a huge Fender fan, though in the mid 80s I did own a Fender 'The Strat' (the special edition with the matching headstock, gold hardware and 'Brassmaster' - gotta love the name-bridge). Sold it to buy the parts for the black Charvel mutt in the pic I posted .

As for the Explorer headstock THIS is the very picture that made me want the guitar in the first f*ing place, not the WACF cover...

Yeah, mine had the other headstock, like the one 2nd from the left in your 1st pic...not so into that... the ones from the year you pictured ('82, if memory serves) had the Rockinger tremolo, then in '83 they switched to Floyds.....

Yeah I am not sure the "Beak" headstock that my Pacer Deluxe has would look good. Why not try to get an old Kramer banana headstock. Same basic idea as the Explorer, and of course will be more correct.

...I'd probably just order a Warmoth one. I'm not too concerned with period-correctness or anything. I've got really large hands, and got hooked on Charvel 1 3/4" nut width necks (built my first one at 18 after reading about Eddie doing it), so I use that width exclusively. Plus, and this is just a weird idiosyncracy of mine--I DESPISE the way Fender and Kramer round off the fretboards at the 22nd or whatever fret...that always looked cheesy to me after I saw my first Charvel.

...yeah, for the record, the 'beak' on that body did look like ass (this is the only similar pic I could find in a quickie search...how lame is THIS finish?)!!!

Warmoth is not a bad choice either ... they're copies of an explorer neck fitting a destroyer body is pretty much dead on ...

I woulda rathered take the Warmoth route rather then what I did buying Ibanezes destroyer then turning around finding an explorerish neck to boot ... which I never found cause Ibanezes necks are hella thin. The base holder with 4 large screws ...

...I've got three Warmoth necks...some of the best stuff in the biz, IMO....
