Well if someone had one of the reissue Plexis then a PTP board and a new output tranny would be the way to go. Hell you've already got the head case and chassis, then might as well make them usefull. As far as myself, I just wanted to build it from scratch...nothing would be cooler than to have someone ask you about your amp, and you say, "I built that bitch." :D

There are several guys on there who own or have owned just about every amp you can think of. Several of them had Splawn amps and ditched them after getting a Metroamp. I know there are other Plexi kits out there, but I think the Metroamp is the ultimate replica....and they are priced fairly.


On the EVH tone....yes it is true that a lot of it comes from his fingers, or actually from the way he attacks the strings. However, you aren't going to tell me that the "brown sound" would have sounded the way it did if he had been using a Roland Jazz Chorus amp. Think about it...I doubt EVH's technique is much different now than it was back then, but he sounds different going through a Peavey rather than his old Marshall.

Yeah, I just meant that in the sense of if you went out and duplicated Ed's shit exactly, you'd still sound like YOU playing through Ed's rig. Kind of like the old story about Ted Nugent and other players of the day claiming Ed had some "secret weapon" pedal, and that he wasn't really that good...Ed's roadie let Ted play through Ed's rig when they toured together and as the quote goes "You know what? Still sounded like TED."

Metro sells their own Dagnall clone as well as transformers made by Heyboer and Mercury Magnetics.

So's thinking a brand of battery in your pedals can make a difference, but people get away with that....ahem..Eric Johnson! ...cough...:D

Personally, if I were to buy into either theory I'd go with the transformer one...I met one dude who swore Johnson was right, and claimed the best sound, regardless of brand, came from a dying battery in your pedal ! "That's when they sound the best, man---right before they crap out!" I'm sure anyone else in here who has ever worked in a guitar shop can relate to the customer that just rambles on about the most INSANE shit, and you just kind stand there like "Really? You don't say...?"
