Celestion G12H-100: what is it?
I have never owned 'em before, I just tonite picked up one of those 1971 Marshall 100 cabinets the type that has the triangular "100" badge-pad in the upper-left corner like Hendrix had.
For under $160 I didn't pay much attention to it till I got it home to take the back off, when I did I noticed the tolex was a different grain altogether.
The serial number plate in fact, said "Model 1982 - 400 watts" which I have never seen before!
The cones are same as the 75's with the "1777" marking in white. The date codes I'll post tomorrow when I look it up what it is, but they're stamped similar to the G12-65 and 75's with that weird oxidize, calcified condensation drip going down the frame. I've seen that alot, garage-stored cabs do that and I got a set of 75's somewhere in storage like that already. They sound fantastic.
What's apparent to me is, someone with a check-grilled Marshall swapped the speakers with a JMP- or JCM-era cabinet along with the backboard. It's got that plastic jack-shell that goes in shaped like a styrofoam cup which I don't like, as they have a tendency under pressure to actually let the input jack plug blow the fuck outwards frying your output tranny.
This will make a good shell when I'm start re-grilling, this makes a third check-grille redo for that list.
Also, it's a Whitworth thread.. so we'll get picks of that for the Whitworth Thread thread, too.
But my main question is: have you ever used the Celestion 100 watter, and what was it for?
Ever known anyone to use it? Ever seen one in action!
