Teacher gives them the standard lecture about how they should be in class, and why should they need to talk like that, because his boys don't talk like that........

Long before this thread went off the rails, it was stated that tuning forks or your ear are fine at home, but for gigs, recording (where you're going to be file-swapping, overdubbing, punching in, or anything that will require exact pitch every time), professional instrument set-ups, etc. - nothing beats an electronic (particularly strobe) tuner.

Which was pretty much my point. Look, I've said it before...at my stage of the game, the idea of dragging equipment all over God's creation on a work night only to get paid a whopping 45 dollars (or considerably much less) went away years ago for me. Those of you still pluggin' away have my respect. And yup, years ago, tuning precisely and quietly was the only way to go.

Yet today, personally, there ain't nothing wrong getting together with friends in a casual environment (be it a one-off jam or a backyard BBQ) and just letting the chips fall. We are talking of two very different divisions of labor here.

And to infer that someone is being unprofessional while the entire concept is to be unprofessional in the first place pretty much misses the point I'm attempting to get across. I'm no longer playing for the majors, and the fact is, I've let the senior tour slide right past as well.

So yeah, when asked to play, and I prompt "Does anyone have a napkin to get this wing sauce off of my fingers, and can also gimme an "E" and another can of beer, I'd appreciate it"...I really don't feel all that much shame.

With all the advances with tuners and most pedal-boards all have inline turners so NOT using one seems a waste.

It's about finding common ground when you're gigging or recording!
