OK, they bait and switched us with 1996. Why should I forgive them for that? It shouldn’t have effected anyone personally here. Eddie just outsmarted himself out of a deal with Warner Brothers. The loss is revenue of vindication enough for any Roth fan. Reading about the situation, I wish that it didn’t happen, but we did get DLR Band, didn’t we?
Should I forgive them for bashing Roth? I find the feud amusing. It’s funny to see Alex, Ed, bass player, and Sam open their mouths. Because sooner or later Dave will respond with a killer album or a one liner that makes them eat their pissant remarks.
If CVH reforms, I won’t even hesitate to buy the new album. I am only interested in Eddie and Dave the performers. Not Eddie and Dave the people.
Not as if Ed and Al said Roth was in, told everyone he'd be singing on Van Halen 3, put his name and picture on the cover and we only found out it was Gary when we put the CD in and played it. Maybe that's too strict an interpretation of the term, though.
I do think they goaded Dave into a scenario and led him to believe more was gonna happen beyond the two tracks for BOV1. Maybe they wanted to tour with him but it became apparent when they were doing the two new songs that Roth wasn't going to return as a puppet, had decided to chuck him prior to the MVA show, but let him appear alongside them to advertise the two new tracks. Even Roth admits that "two new songs was all I knew for sure."
Ed never did say in 1996 that they were gonna tour with Roth or do anything beyond those tracks, at least not publicly. None of them did. They alluded to the possibility, but never made a direct confirmation of it.
I am sure that they thought bringing in Cherone would prove to be as easy as when Hagar came aboard in 1985, and they never anticipated the backlash would be so severe.
Roth had said after the dust settled that if he was guilty of anything, he was guilty of denial, and that he wanted to believe. We all did. But when you look at the record of what was said, the sisters didn't pull a bait and switch. They did manage to raise everyone's expectations sky-high and made a major miscalculation.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment
