I'll cite statistics. Take KISS.
They did a tour in 1992 (REVENGE TOUR) in which they were touring without all the original members. It was among their worst attendance averages: 5000 people per show.
Three and a half short years later, they decide to reunite with the original line-up, and they end up with the biggest-grossing tour of the year and average attendance of 14000 people per show. Real figures people.
This just goes to show that some people don't give a fuck about the name on the marquee if they know it's not the real band. Some people just want to see the real thing and not a two-hour tequila commercial or a lesson on how fat you can be while still attempting to sing rock 'n' roll.
If VAN HALEN reunited, it would be a huge story and people would come out of the woodworks to see them live. With this tour, you had the radio stations advertising "this isn't the original band", and tons of concert goers let the band know they didn't want Sammy there by allowing almost NONE of the shows to come even near sell-out status.
VAN HAGAR sucks. It took 20 years for the general public to realize this and let the band know this. But they finally did.
I'm glad this tour happened. It pretty much ended the DAVE vs. SAM arguments in one easy embarressment for moron Ched Heads.
