They are sitting on an embarrising wealth of Dave era lives. Remember the name of the game now for the sisters is to make money, and keep the green coming in. What better way to do this than releasing some Dave era lives.
Ed and Al have huge ego's, but somehow I think the money making potential here will prove too great for even them to resist.Roth Army MilitiaComment

You know, Sammy is a lot like your old friend and nemesis, Moe Greene. Moe Greene refused to leave a racket that wasn't his, just as Sammy refuses to leave a band that isn't his. In the end, the VH brothers, just as the Corleone brothers did, will have to put a bullet in Sammy's eye.Originally posted by Don Corleone
For the brothers (especially Alice) to bring back Dave full time they will have to admit to themselves that they need him. From Eddie trying to work with Dave in 96/2000/2002 it would seem that he has started to admitted it, but Alice on the other hand has taken it upon himself to run Dave down as often as possable. These interviews remind me of something my late brother Fredo once said to me;

I'd like to believe that the Brother's have it in them to do this, unfortunately I think it won't be a bullet that Alex shoots in Sam's eye. There's more of Fredo than Santino in him.Originally posted by Rikk

It would appear that intervention may be needed by the Corleone family to finally resolve this one.
My actions will be swift, and as follows:
1. The Sammy issue will be resolved once and for all (Al Neri and Rocco are already on there way to Cabo for a chat)
2. Dave to be made head of the Van Halen family (Frankie Pentelgeli will over see this move, offering any assistance if so needed)
3. All traces of 5150, OU812, FUCK, Balance and the 3 new tracks will be erased. I will give the brothers a clean slate.Roth Army MilitiaComment

You guys should realize, after that disgrace of having DLR-era live songs sung by Sham on the "Best of Both Worlds, but we're not going to put out another greatest hits album nor go out on a nostalgia tour" CD, that tells you how much they give a shit of their classic material...

With WB box sets, you have a 50/50 chance of it being a great product.
The Grateful Dead's "Golden Road" is an example of a box set they did right. Excellent packaging, enough bonus material on each individual CD to nearly double the original album's length, in most cases, and a 2 CD set of previously unreleased demos and live performances from the band's early days. And the sound significantly improved, even from the previous CD releases.
The Black Sabbath box set is an example of half assed work. While the remastering was good, and I don't regret buying it because of the improved sound, the packaging was cheesy, and bonus material almost non existent. Just the one track added to the first album that was somehow deleted from the original US release. Oh, and a 20 minute DVD of some early TV performances.
There is enough Van HALEN material in the vaults to put out a box set equaling or exceeding the Dead model. However, if the Lying Dutchmen are left in charge, I fear it would be closer to the Sabbath set. And worse yet, include Van Hagar shit.
Under NO circumstances should Van HALEN and Van Hagar be mixed on a box set. If the sheep want unreleased
, let them pay for it in their own box set. I don't want to buy it.

Agreed. But I hope Rocco and Al Neri are careful. You sent Luca to have a chat with Sammy in '97, just to read him out. And Luca was locked in a room with a copy of MARCHING TO MARS placed in a discman over his ears. Needless to say, he was never seen again.Originally posted by Don Corleone

Also, if Dave is made head of the family, make sure you take care of the Rosato brothers as well. They tried to double-cross Dave in '96, and this time there should be no street shoot-out. This time, send Cici in to "button" the Rosato brothers so we can have full access to the master tapes.
Furthermore, I hope you can trust Clemenza's men. I'm already sure that Tesio's men are going to double-cross us and try to get a box set of 5150 outtakes released. And that would not be good.Roth Army Militia

Am not too optomistic about a box set if the Van Halens have a lot of input on it.
Won't be too thrilled about having to buy anything that includes both eras on it, or all three eras for a start, but you know if this box set is true to form the eras won't be separated to enable fans of a particular lineup to buy that material to the exclusion of all others.
In terms of mining their back catalog, Van Halen have as yet to even open up the vaults for any previously unreleased material. You might see a couple of Roth gems unearthed for a 4 disc box set, but I wouldn't shell out the dough to get 2 such tracks out of a hundred.
About the only thing I could hope for is a video companion that had all the classic promos, live and conceptual, cleaned up and restored. Would buy that even if it meant having that stuff sitting alongside a bunch of Van Hagar stuff on a DVD.
Getting a complete Oakland 1981 cleaned up Zep-style and released is too much to hope for, but I'd scoop up that in a second if it happened. A five hour DVD of classic live cuts would be the best thing to come out of Van Halen since.............well, since the classic era ended.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

ed simply can't do a solo album...he's lost and before that he was some lazy fuck...he needs a driving force behind him...he could have done a solo album at least after the VHIII debacle and has not. there are hundreds of musicians who would kill to be on an album with eddie V. but he can't get his shit together...Roth Army Icon

Who actually owns the VH6 masters, Warner Brothers or the VH brothers? Why doesn't Davy Baby have a say in those old shows/unreleased tunes?
Release some old school Van Halen on a remastered box set and a couple of DVDs, damn it!
What the fuck are they waiting on, one of them to take a dirt nap?Last edited by Switch84; 11-27-2004, 12:58 AM."He doesn't need to sell millions of records, he doesn't need to fill arenas, he doesn't need to be popular, he doesn't need your money, AND HE DOESN'T NEED YOU!"

Think Ed is just too used to the Van Halen bubble and too close to the whole situation to realize that the name Van Halen in the present tense no longer represents a band of any importance to many who were turned on by the group years ago.
Sprinkled throughout Ed's interviews over the years are sentiments like "It's time to move on", "Doing a tour with Roth would be taking a step backwards" and "We're not a nostalgia band". Turns out his idea of moving on was to do a tour with Hagar supporting only three new tunes released since 1998.
Add that together with his cancer, his wife leaving, being dropped from his record label and his drinking..........his outlook doesn't look good. But he's in a perfect position to cast off the weight of his own legacy and do something new. More of the same is the safe way out. This is something he should have done after Dave left, but he took the safe way out and got away with it for a while. Now the interest is winding down.
Time for Mr.Fingers to light a fire under his ass and show us he's got something more to say with his guitar, even if it's in a totally instrumental setting, because the traditional rock band lineup concept isn't serving his talent well anymore.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

I hope Alex has no input on this boxset....he could fuck up a vacant lot.
This is what will be on the 'box set':
1st CD: Released Dave Studio
2nd CD: Released Sammy Studio
3rd CD: Unreleased Demos maybe 1 or 2 Dave songs, the rest Sammy and Possibly Eddie Jam stuff
DVD: 3 Oakland Videos, maybe a rer video from VH 1 or 2. Live without a net videos, maybe a video or 2 from the 10 spot and some staged "inside the 5150" stuff.
Price: $ 51.50.
PS...Eruption will be played at the beginning of every CD/DVD just to reinforce that this is EDDIE'S FUCKING BAND!Comment

I agree, Terry. He should just take up the tuba like he said.
