last van hagar tour a blessing in diguise?

    1. eddie actually left his cave and played shows again for the first time in years.

    2. the tour BOMBED and i'd say their done with spam.

    3. if ed wants more and better attention it will be with the classic lineup, and i don't think he can now fake himself into thinking they just ripped it up on the road that last tour.

    4. ed got some on the job experience-some say he played great, some said he was off and on...i didn't check it out, but actually doing it might have him loosened up to rock out the only way we'll accept!

    5. beck's new album drops soon, and ed seems to like him (i do too!). maybe ed will tour with beck if not with dave. (i know that's corny, but i don't care)

if ed's warmed up now and dave whips the stuff we hope is happening into shape...then oh boy!

It's been almost a decade since Van Halen released Me Wise Magic and Can't Get This Stuff No More with Dave. Remember all the excitement that caused and the whole MTV thing?

The past nine years Eddie has degenerated so bad, he lost his health, his looks, his wife of 23 years, and a lot of his talent. I think Ed will continue to go downhill. For a man who just had a big cancer scare, he sure doesn't seem to give a shit. If Eddie doesn't care about himself or even his own family to clean up, why is he going to care about his band or fans?

If it hasn't happened already it's not going to happen.

              Good one dude!

You brought up some good points, with the exception of the Beck thing. I've thought about it myself and just don't see it happening unless Ed does a complete 180. I met some guys that did the lighting for the last tour. They didn't have any interaction with the band, but they went from being huge VH fans, to not being able to stomach the band at all. The main reason - Ed's horseshit playing.

I hate dissing Ed because the guys always been a hero of mine. But he's really fucked up his legacy over the past decade.

I objection to your post about the tour being "BOMBED." Let me make this clearly for you. This is not about David or Sammy, because to me both are lead singers for Van Halen. I understand the feeling you want to be create on this website i.e. Sam's Fat, Dave is #1, etc. When I first read the sight, ny secretary was look to it first and told me it was Van Halen. It bring back memories as 1984 was the first VH that I got. But when I read the site, I now know you only like VH w/ David. OK. That is fine. But to say VH 2004 Tour was a "BOMBED. NO WAY JOSE!

You think about it. This tour was put together at the last second with very, very little promotion. Almost no promotions at all. They were touring with an album of great hits when they already had one before and the 3 new songs were rushed.THEY WERE NOT TOURING TO A NEW ALBUM!

Touring this Summer has been slow. And in today's time, rock and roll bands do not have so many people see the shows in stadium and arenas. TODAY'S GROUPS THAT SELL MILLION TIMES COPIES DON'T SELL OUT SHOWS. A band can have 10 top 10 songs, sell 1 million copies and they stay have to play a House of Blues. So, for Van Halen to play arenas is incredible because they didn't have a current album. Plus, this band has been inactive and their last tour was in 1998 with Gary.

Over six years of not touring + No new album + No promotions + no hit single AND THIS BAND WAS STILL ABLE TO SELL OUT SOME SHOWS! Hey suckers! Take off your DLR color glasses and see things fairly. Give Sam and the band credit.

Tommy Salami, Check out an issue of Rolling Stone, I don't have the date - but it was probably 2 issues back - The guys made money on this tour - but promoters lost their asses. The band was guarenteed about a half mil a show - many promoters fell way short of that number and ended up losing their asses. And that's with $75 tickets. Often times, the venues they were playing were packaging free food deals to up ticket sales. RS also stated the next time VH hits the road, their price will have to go down because they didn't meet expectations.

As far as no promotion - these assholes didn't do any press at all. Meaning - the media outlets that requested interviews were all turned down. I know - I tried on more than one occasion to sit down to the band. Even Sam and Mike didn't talk, which is unusual because Sammy never met a camera he didn't like. So they have no one to blame but themselves for not doing any promotion - short of granting a Dutch journalist an intereview in which Eddie lied about his age.

I saw the tour in Louisville and hated it. Eddie was a wreck. To say he was a shadow of his former self would be an insult to his shadow. The guy just didn't have it that night. I wasn't the only one who said this same thing. By the way - I saw Halen in Louisville in 95 and the place was sold out - 9 years later it was a little more than a half full.

Let's be realistic bro - Do you think a VH tour with Dave would produce the same results? Do a little research before coming in here with your big swingin' dick okay.

they were number 34 on the tour list last year. just vh being back on the road should have been huge. it wasnt, at number 34 on the money list for touring this past year is an insult to vh. i went to the worcester centrum show, the first one last summer in june. it wasnt even 65 percent full, the second show my buddy went to without me, said the first show had more people there than the second show. PATHETIC. i saw motley crue last saturday at the boston fleet center which holds 10,000 more people than the worcester centrum and it was sold out. in the month of march, 25 degrees outside the place was packed. van hagar toured in the summer when everyone wants to see rock shows. YOU TELLIN ME OR ANYBODY THAT VH WITH DAVE WOULDNT SELL OUT TWO SHOWS AT THE CENTRUM OR ONE AT THE FLEET CENTER, EITHER YOU ARE A LIAR OR SEVERELY LACKING ANY CLUE.
