      VH3 is great!

      You know VH3 is a misunderstanding classic that was before it's time. First thing first, Gary as the frontman was a good choice. He had Sam's vocal range and Dave flamboyance. Eddie's playing on that album is awesome. He play so many style songs, from a long epic like "Year to the Day" to mudswamp blues like "Apolitic Blues." Eddie push himself and like on every other VH album, he playing is amazing. He wasn't afraid of departure from VH party band sound on wanted to tack the bigger issues. The quality of the music is deep and introspect.

      VH was becoming to advance in age to continue party band music. The maturity on that album is amazing. Just like they mature in the classic VH sound when they went from Dave to Sammy. Without Sammy, we wouldn't have the maturity and more meaningful songs. The change to Sammy allowed VH to grow.

      And just like from Dave to Sammy, VH continue to mature and be more wise, and Sam's tequila band image didn't mature with Vh, then they move to Gary. Great album. I put it on right now.

      Remember, VH is like a car. Al and Ed drive that car.

              Can't argue with that since like most real VH fans, I never bought the "gold" little album, VDIII, that never could; nor have I heard anything outside the main release, which I forgot since it was a very forgettable debacle. I heard the first (and last?) song released and simply wasn't interested. Simply put TOM VOOOO, VH is the last band on earth to tackle larger issues! They want to tackle issues, how about tackling alcoholism or serial divorce. If I want to hear a band to raise my consciousness, I'll put on some U2! Not the "party band from Pasadena, CA!"

              No. They were merely parroting U2, an obsession carried over from the SAMMY days of the F.U.C.K. and BALANCE tours. In short, VAN HAGAR and VAN GArY were going with the flow of the alternative, grunge precedent set in the early 90's. VAN HALEN is not PEARL JAM, and they never should have tried to become them.

              And just like from Dave to Sammy, VH continue to mature and be more wise, and Sam's tequila band image didn't mature with Vh, then they move to Gary. Great album. I put it on right now.

              A "mature" band would have buried the hatchet with DAVE and would have reunited with him for real in 1996. "Mature" people do not live in denial and drink their careers into oblivion. Indeed VU, the SISTER's drive that car alright! intoxicated and with a serious case of road rage. They drove that car right off a cliff and ran over their LEGACY in the process. Now go enable them some more.

                Okay. You make many good points about the VH3 and I respect your opinion but one thing I have to correct you on;

                How could you say that Alex and Eddie drove their careers into oblivious?

                This is a band that had a TOP 10 grossing tour this Summer after being in the inactive for more than 6 years. I wouldn't call this oblivion.

                Score another PLATINUM double album when they already had a Best Of VH album in 96. Think about how incredible this is. They re-release basically the same album and IT STILL GO TO PLATINUM!

                And about VH3 that is another topic but it's some of Eddie's most amazing playing. The man is genius on guitar. And Alex on "Dirty Water Dog", Wow! People talk about his introduction on "Hot For The Teacher" but "Dirty Water Dog" kick it up another level!

                I suggestion you listen to it.

                      Greatest hits albums should do better than just go platinum, and frankly I have heard there were some quetionable numbers being scued with free give-aways. They may have made some money on the tour, but it under-performed and they screwed the promoters badly by delivering few sellouts. If VAN HAGAR tours again, it will be as art of a package of a band that still releases new material and is relevent. VAN HA--- hasn't released a studio album in seven years, and the three universally reviled half-assed pieces of shit they released on BOBWs certainly don't count. Nobody will touch VAN HAGAR as a stand alone act, and you'll be waiting along time for their next studio album, since they don't have a record contract. And no one will touch them without DAVE. The oblivion stems from the fact that they are now devoid of creativity and haven't put out anything in said seven years. VAN HALEN could have been THE ROLLING STONES, now their more like BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE or JOURNEY. I'll look for some VDIII MP3's of it though.

                      There only hope of rock and roll salvation, and to salvage some of their legacy, is too reunite with DAVE and release a couple of albums. I'm not holding my breath though.

                            Van Halen could save a baby from drowning but people will still say, "Yeah, but where's his hat?" It's always NOT ENOUGH. When will it be GOOD ENOUGH?
