Last saturday in Sydney Australia i was collecting my dry cleaning and wearing a Diver down t shirt on.A young dude says gee nice shirt, but i never really got into VH and they went all faggety in the end.I told him that was after CVH and he didnt know what i was talking about.
I hope this reunion happens so every young kid who has heard of VH will know theres more to VH than the fuckin spammy years!

I wear my CVH T-shirt all the time. From time to time I'll have someone say how much they love VH, etc. Anytime a kid says how much they think Motley Crue rule or something, I know they're probably not legit. The Crue had some great marketing for their reunion. They TOLD people they were the greatest, etc, and the general public, stupid as they are, ate it up.

To me, loving VH is kinda different. It's a bit harder to get the T-shirts and merchandise. VH fans are real.

Years ago everyone knew what Van Halen meant, what it was and most in our generation admitted it was the shit. Van Halen was a huge brandname that meant jaw dropping music, charisma, and one hell of a live show. It was more than any one member of that band; even though, the guitar player and lead singer were in the lime light for their increadable talent.

Like all good established brandnames, once you've become a ledgend, you have to work to fuck it up. People will forgive stupid mistakes and bad decicsons while they wait for you to get your act back together and bring back the brilliance once again.

Yeah, the fans waited years for Van Halen to get their shit back together. Oh they must have writers block, oh David must have fucked Alex's wife, oh it must be the alcohol and drugs ect... and on and on. Yeah we waited. For two fucking decades!

The last decade of screw ups just nailed the coffin nail into Van Halen. The greatness was a long time ago and unless you are a true fan of the classic catalog when Roth was quarterback, and in your late 30's to 50's, all you see is a stupid, sack of shit band.

Anyways, I was wearing a classic Van Halen logoed jacket today and a young kid told me Van Halen sucks and I suck if I like them. I responded, Van Hagar sucks but classic Van Halen is what I'm into. The kid looked puzzled. He didn't know the difference. The Roth years were way before his time. What I came to realize is Van Halen no longer means what it used to. The brandname has been ruined. For this reason, I wish they would have renamed the band when Sammy joined.
That is the best post I have ever read in a Van Halen related forum. Sums it up in a nutshell, it really is embarrasing to be a fan these days.

That's a fucking shame that is, and i bet the kid went home and put his favourite Trivium CD on!

I had an argument about VH with some idiot kid my age (19 or so) at a party. I was pretty loaded, and I was talking about music I love, saying how I love "old hard rock/heavy metal" -- CVH, etc. I get the "Van Halen's not a heavy band" shit from this guy. I have all the first 6 albums on my phone. I pulled out On Fire or something. He denied it was heavy. He spat out the name of some modern band as defining "heavy." Finally he admitted he only knew Jump, etc. and was judging VH based on those songs. Idiot. After a few more arguments over different bands, I actually told him to move to the other side of the room because I was sick of looking at him.

It worked. Had no trouble from him for the rest of the night.

There's no excuse for not knowing the difference. That kid should have known the difference because of the Internet.

It's a shame too. I will NEVER buy merch with a curved VH logo.
