I TOTALLY agree with this...I immediately recognize Alex's sound - there's no mistaking it...definitely a big part of the VH vibe.
To whoever said Ray isn't great live - WHATEVER . I may not know much about the technical aspects of drumming yet, but I sure know what sounds good - and Ray ROCKS live... :D

In fact, last week heard a song in a bar on the jukebox that I did not actually recognize at first. It turned out to be some Van Hagar shit that I didn't own anyway. But...I heard that snare drum and said " that sounds like Alex Van Halen" I was shocked because I tuned into the snare sound before the guitar even.
The degradation of Eddies tone over the years is a whole 'nother thred entirely...
I like the drummer from ZZ Top. But between ray and Al? Al for sure. I can tell Al's drum work from a few beats away. He's pretty distinguished.
