I TOTALLY agree with this...I immediately recognize Alex's sound - there's no mistaking it...definitely a big part of the VH vibe.

To whoever said Ray isn't great live - WHATEVER . I may not know much about the technical aspects of drumming yet, but I sure know what sounds good - and Ray ROCKS live... :D

In fact, last week heard a song in a bar on the jukebox that I did not actually recognize at first. It turned out to be some Van Hagar shit that I didn't own anyway. But...I heard that snare drum and said " that sounds like Alex Van Halen" I was shocked because I tuned into the snare sound before the guitar even.
The degradation of Eddies tone over the years is a whole 'nother thred entirely...

I like the drummer from ZZ Top. But between ray and Al? Al for sure. I can tell Al's drum work from a few beats away. He's pretty distinguished.

As much as I like Ray, I gotta go with Alex on this one. Hell, Ray would probably say the same thing. :D

                    Ray might say that.

But the fans have Alex leading by only 1 vote on our poll.

I personally think Ray is better.

If Alex wasn't in Van Halen.... Ray would win easily...

                      Yes he is.

And were you not the one saying a year or two ago that you could play the intro to HFT?

So Alex's signature piece can be played by a drunken guitarist?:D

                      Cheers!
