Best live performer, Angus no question!! Plus he is 10 times cooler a rock god, and has consistantly written better songs to perform. I seriously could give a shit about how many chords he plays, cause he can kick the piss out of those chords he does use.

As a soloist, and an ICON, Ed obviously wins, but this is actually a close call. C'mon, I mean, "Beatin' Around the Bush"? Angus SMOKES!

Noone should have to choose. A great Saturday afternoon would be having a keg with your friends in the backyard, cranking the stereo, alternating tracks between CVH and Bon Scott era AC/DC.

Heaven on earth! As long as the beer is cold!

Yet have outsold Van Halen in every way possible and still play
stadiums. Never heard a sappy piece of love crap out of em..

AC/DC (even the Brian Johnson era) kills Van Hagar.
Concert sales, record sales, fuck, probably even t-shirt sales..

EVH *was* the better guitarist, but AC/DC still rule the world.

I dont get it when Hard Rock fans bitch about other quality
hard rock acts. AC/DC are up there with Led Zep.

Classic Van Halen was on its way. But it fizzled out very quickly.

            But yeah, Ed was better.

That said, Angus can literally run circles around Ed onstage.

The whole point of this poll is "live performance", not "technical ability".

Angus is STILL a non-stop machine onstage, where all Ed wants to do anymore is fuck off for 15 minutes while calling it a "guitar solo".

Angus wins hands down, end of fucking story.

              Hardrock, I see your point.

However, in the original question, I assumed that since Cathedral referred to a "younger, more vibrant AC/DC era", that we were also harkening back to a younger, more vibrant (and Hagar-free!) Van Halen era.

If that were the case, you have to give it to Eddie.

But, if we're comparing based on last year's drunken display by Eddie, then Angus takes it.

So I guess the decision lies in where on the dateline you choose your "live performances."

These two guitar gods crossed path's on a few occasions back in the early days. These two on the same bill would have been something to see. A real show down between two young gunslingers. I would give the nod to Ed. But today Angus is in better shape and from what I understand, stone sober. And AC\DC is preparing a new cd and tour unlike Van Shamgar.

Marky Mark - This poll wasn't about record sales, t-shirt sales, blah blah. You know how that dumb argument goes. Quantity doesn't equal quality.

Now I'm not saying I don't like AC/DC, because I do. But to say they keep putting out great stuff is silly. They've had some fucking awful records.

And if you put Ed on the stage circa 1981 against Angus 1981, Ed will piss on him every which way possible. Angus is full of energy, and AC/DC can rock, but Angus is an average lead guitarist chops-wise and when VH was in their prime Ed was fun as hell to watch and the mother fucker could play like nobody could.

Perhaps they have had some 'awful' records, but none of them contain any "ooooh babeeee gimme alll yoooore luuuuv toniiite" bullshit fucking crap.

They've put out plenty of bullshit fucking crap without needing those lyrics. "Heatseeker" comes to mind.

Bon Scott was probably rolling over in his grave hearing that mess.

Give me AC/DC circa 1979 over Van Halen any fucking day. Straight up balls out ROCK. I truly dig both bands, but if given the ability to time travel. it would be to some sweaty smoke filled arena and AC/DC with Bonn Scott would be on top of the bill

Ed, without a fuckin doubt, even today I still think that EDDIE is the best, who gives a flying fuck about what he's done over the last twenty years, he is still the KING OF 6 STRINGS, he never ever sounded the same, everything about Ed's guitar playing was special, PERIOD(during his CVH years of course)
As for Angus, shit he is good but not better, if ya like listenin to the same shit over and over again be my guest, but I can only take so much ac/dc(2 songs tops) before I get a headache. Sorry gang
                              EDDIE RULES.

I'd like to make one point:

AC/DC never forgot who their fans were.

I also remember a quote from Angus, something like "finger tapping and all those effects.... should be left at home.... they get in the way of the performance"

(that quote is not word for word, just something I remember from around 10 years ago he said in some interview)

Edit: Yeah, I know he taps some, but don't kill the messenger
