excuse me...but have you seen this?

sometimes it makes a difference if you are at a concert or if you watch it on video...

You make ONE point - being drunk on stage hasn't ever really affected Ed's playing.

Last tour, though, he put in some shitty performances, for whatever reason.

We can HOPE it's a hatred of Sammy Hagar, and there may be a good reason to believe that.

        Who knows...

I wasn't dumb enough to go to last tour, if I was that dumb I would be pissed that I spent money to watch shit like that.

          DLR7884
That was really horrible, I don't know if I want Dave and VH to get back together anymore.

On a personal note, bro, I think things would tighten up a lot with Dave back at the helm...I think if they were to jam consistantly prior to going out on the road, they'd KNOW that it was make it or break it and turn in some good showings.

            Just me.

Don't allow Ed to fucking drink on tour w/DLR.

              DLR7884
I never have watched footage of last tour, I knew that people said it was bad.....I didn't realize it was THAT bad.

In a perfect world, Ed WANTED that tour to fail so that Alex and Mike would realize it's Dave or the grave...

Christ, if I was Ed and had to play every night with Sam, I'd probably drink like a fish too....

What the fuck's Ed gonna do on a G3 tour? Even if he played ALL those classic instrumentals (Eruption, Spanish Fly, Little Guitars Intro, etc.), and spent, say, fifteen additional minutes with the two-handed tapping and whammy bar wanking........you're talking maybe a half-hour. After that, the only points of musical interest are gonna be CVH music, and then it's gonna come back to the same ol' question of 'Where's Dave?'

Am sure there are plenty of tossers with a lifetime subscription to Guitar World who wouldn't care what Eddie did, but IMO EVH's best stuff was in the context of classic Van Halen SONGS, as opposed to his nightly, quarter-hour unaccompanied 'weedly-weedly-wee' snoozefest.

The real question is, would you smoke your face off after being diagnosed with cancer?

                    DLR7884
I'm an ex-smoker (for 17 days!) and I quit BEFORE I got cancer because I'm not a fucking idiot.

Excellent point. Short of jacking off nightly for the remainder, he'd run out of material in 20 minutes.

                      Good observation, Terry.

I doubt it would be worth watching.

Listen to some of the tracks on the Best of both world, Eddie has this post-zepplin Jimmy page quality to his playing, where his playing seems sluggish, and as if he has a hard time moving his fingers around.

Seriously, ever seen somebody who drinks to much, and they "shake" uncontrolably when they're sober? Sort of like eddie and jimi are nowadays. They need a few drinks before they can even start playing, Just to keep their hands steady.

I have an old friend I haven't seen in a few years, and he's got that same problem. Didn't much affect his musicianship, though...but Ed's got fifteen years on him, also...

Age doesn't affect guitar playing as greatly as drug abuse or years of over drinking.
Angus young in his 50's played just as well as he did in his early 30's.

Jimmy page on the other hand...Seriously, listen to the no quarter albulm he did with plant a few years after zepplins breakup, and see how the quality of his playing has wained over the years. Hell, for further evidence, look into jimmy page with the black crowes, where his playing was very bad and sluggish.
As for eddie, come on, in the stuido his chops were pretty bad for the new songs in the best of both worlds.

Seriously, look at the video that was posted, he actually pop's open his finger and starts bleeding at the end trying to attempt to tap...Seriously, I don't think there is enough practicing that could ever be done to fix that sort of problem.

I had no idea, actually. If Ed's problems are that deep, it's probably time for him to hang it up.

                              Too bad, really.

Meh, Both him and dave need to push out one last albulm and tour before there is nothing left of them. Dave's voice is starting to wain, and eddie's playing is starting to get pretty bad.

Even if it sucked, it would at least serve as some closure, and help the band end on a better note than when they left, and leave one last impression for fans to decided if the reunion was worth it or not.
