"It's just not an option for me to go and watch some other band — who are only performing because they have some new record coming out — do our music," Roth said. "I have nothing against Velvet Revolver — I'm not familiar with their music — but that was my 3 minutes and 22 seconds up there."
    Roth Keeps it REEEEAL

      Van Halen was Dave's ideer.

Dave wanted to name the band Van halen because it sounded classical - if he could have had futurevisiion, I bet he'd a called it DLR Band.

technically it WAS DLR Band V. 1.0

Sammy Hagar is an option soon to be exhausted: remember he couldn't even finish the tour with Roth on Sam n Dave Tour?

DLR IS THE FINAL FRONTIER: This round won't last 6 concerts - who's bet money can I take on THAT???

alright, personally, i think it's more likely than not that they never work together again. but just for shits and giggles, i voted YES. after all, i do think there's at least a decent chance it happens (cue 'dumb and dumber..."so you're saying there's a chance...:D)

the way i figure is, post 96, ed and al were pretty fucking vocal about how bad dave was and how awful it was to deal with him. after seeing the MTV interview, you'd have thought ed really would've nut-shotted dave if he saw him walking down the street.

as it turned out, just 4 years later, they talked, hung out in a backyard, smoked cigars and then recorded some tracks together. and got along well enough, at least in the studio, to make mikey think dave was back in the band.

then something got fucked up. what? ed says the lawyers. we know that's bullshit. lawyers don't do anything their clients don't want. so it's clear ed and dave couldn't come to an agreement.

but my guess is that if it was dave wanting exhorbanant things, like 100% of the royalties, the band named changed to "diamond dave & the 3 jokers," and whatnot, eddie would've complained that THAT was the reason they didn't get together.

which leads me to believe that the problem was that dave wanted the same control he had in 1978-1984 and eddie wanted the control HE had for VHIII. but eddie knows, deep down, that the 1978-1984 formula was successfull. so he wasn't going to admit to the (golf) magazines that he couldn't tolerate it being the way it was.

but eddie knows how successful and important those albums were. he might not consider himself a rockstar, but he does know when he influences other rockstars. we've seen him get pissed when musicians credit ace frehley for inspiration. he says ace inspired nobody, it was van halen. he's close to right. van halen (and his guitar playing) inspired far more guitarists. but you NEVER here a musician credit eddie's playing on OU812 or the guitar solo on "dreams," as inspiration.

any musician i've EVER heard give credit to van halen as INSPIRATION (sure, some admit to liking van hagar, and a very few will say they prefer it, but nobody admits to being inspired) always credit dave-era van halen. and eddie knows this.

he likes all 11 studio albums and all 3 versions of van halen. and he'll pimp van hagar strongly on this tour. but deep down, he knows the impact van halen had. and i think that before he's done making music, there's a decent chance he wants to capture even a little of that 1 more time.

and yeah, GAR, i give you 5-1 odds that van hagar makes it to the 7th concert...
