He didn't break his leg, he just wiped out while - if I remember correctly - skateboarding, and as he says "Totally burgered my face".
He claims to still have little scars from the experience and he also recounts how they had to hold him down as they used a steel brush on his face.
He resented that all the other kids laughed at him at the time, and makde a little sailboat, went onto the front porch, said "This is me" and kicked it into the street.
Dave considers that the moment he decided to forego close ties and friendships and be more of a loner.
I am a big Dave fan, but I have a bit of a problem with his actions in 1985.
Everyone in life is free to make decisions for themselves and from all accounts this is what Dave did in leaving Van Halen.
But, it seems a bit weak using the Van Halen offices, etc (if indeed this is true) promoting Crazy from the Heat.
Dave starting believing his own hype to a degree and felt his time was now to go solo.
In his defense, it sounds like a break was needed as VH was not getting along, but I can't help but side with the VH brothers for feeling a little bit used in this case.

my answer? no.

"FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKIN' BITCH! WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ANYWAYS? TALK TO ME LIKE THAT? FUCK YOU. DRAG QUEEN LOOKIN' WHORE- YOU AINT SHIT. YOUR THE FRECKLE TO THE LEFT OF MY BROWN EYE. NOW GO MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL...OH, PUT DAD ON THE PHONE"
I dont think Roth "got over" not being in Van Halen or at the very least was hoping VH would crash and burn. which of course they eventually did, albeit a little too late for any serious reunion. Dave hasn't had any band member close to him since Edward. I can understand why.

I saw a programme bout it. The germans were really racist about it initially and gave Becker death threats, but they got over it eventually and accepted it.
then he banged a waitress in a cupboard in a London restaurant in 15 seconds,
In a cupboard? Man. I hear of all these places guys bang their women and I still think the bed is the most comfortable.
well either that or on top of the hot water tank, beside the cats litter box. The warm surface and aroma that rises is the ultimate in sexual fulfillment.

Here's why we all like Roth...because he doesn't fit into a fixed personality...
he's a loner...yeah...so what...that's why we like him...there's a little of that in all of us...to want the fucking balls to go about life on our own...without having to answer to anyone...or if you do answer to anyone...you keep it under wraps so that noone knows about it...
it's that fucking simple...it's about a lifestyle that he gets...that he plans for...that he lives with...
new things...not about the money...about doing what he wants...when he wants...
I don't have a problem with that at all...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."
but would i be right to say he didnt perform live between his final vegas show on new years eve 1995, and then the first show on his 1999 tour, which was in about June, I think?
how can someone who, as said in the EEAS interviews, "be responsible to bringing it to the fans, a peoples band" not perform live in over 3 years.
Originally posted by doctor roth Exactly. From what i have read over the years (ofcourse all must be taken with a grain of salt) Dave ain't been that close with anyone. He has not married etc etc. maybe its the old 'needing people is a weakness ???? I don't pretend to know what goes on in his head.
It is very understandable why Dave isn't as close as when he was with VH. VH is his band, really, his ultimate attitude to life, the Van Halen way. I don't think there's a better way!!! So having to contend with a sub-par band in comparison to the might VH...well it would be hard to get close, and Dave's been close. He fucking belonged to Van Halen, he represented the 'way'.
But that would be my main reason, and besides there are a lot of detractors in your life (especially his life) which would make you very selective of who you really get creative with. Muso's know this, the higher you get the more stranded you can feel, the more lonely it is. So Dave is really a victim, he has to be cautious. And he's probably a dedicated but personal guy who keeps to himself mostly. Enjoys his fun and keeps living. Maybe he's learned the law of detachment and he lives free from day to day. I'd like to think so.

I try to live like that!! We all should live like that. Wouldn'nt the world be a better place with more lifers like Dave around??
I also think Dave has to be anti-social in order to calm his mind, to get in touch with himself. I like everything about Dave!! And I forgive him for all his past sins, they don't matter anymore!! His real essence shines through and you can't help but love the guy and totally respect everything he stands for.
I'm very proud of what was that band and what was that show and what it did mean to people. It disgusts me that it has turned into the complete opposite. That it now represents everything that I spoke against, that we suppoesedly represented the converse of. I don't want to have to remember that the team turned into that. Makes me question what the team was while I was a member. Was it all bullshit? If nothing else, it confirms in my mind that from my standpoint - yours truly, David Lee - not a fraction. If nothing else, this kind of morbid, wounded animal anger aimed my way has caused me to look deep into that bathroom mirror and come back to you with "my shit was legit." It was for real. And perhaps the test is time. Because here I am, a decade and a half later, haven't changed much. I look a little different, but not much. My sense of humour is about the same.
One thing I dont like about dave is that no matter where he does an interview he just can't be normal. look at when he went on howard stern. he just ain't right. can he not be cool, calm, and collective and present himself in a way that he would'nt be taken as a joke.
