Oh, I know and I also know that whatever they worked on would have been completely different. I just tend to agree with the point that a lot of more complete song arrangements were ready to go by the time Hagar came into play as opposed to just a few riffs.

I do agree with that yes. I didn't mean to imply that all Ed had lying around were some riffs, I bet most of the arrangements were complete yes.

Yeah, what I think is that a few of the songs ended up on "5150" in some version or another. However, I cannot for one minute imagine Dave giving "Love Walks In" even a listen. I do remember Ed once saying that he showed Dave "Dreams" but Dave didn't like it and Ed said it was "prolly a little to melodic for him" and that he (Dave) doesn't feel comfortable singing a song unless he can scream over it. It was meant as a jab I think. I also remember Ed sayin that he wrote the "5150" riff in the middle of the night and called Hagar and played it to him over the phone.

We already know that Ed had "Good Enough" cos that riff was used in the "Wild Life." So, that could have been one along with the infamous "Eat Thy Neighbor/Summer Nights." I'd bet the songs that were ready would be stuff like BOBW, Get Up and the others that I already mentioned. Then again, who knows cos Ed also had the "Right Now" riff going back then. In fact, bits of it were played in his keyboard solo/Dave sword thing during the '84 Tour. Ed also mentioned that when Dave bailed and they were thinking of the "All Star" record that he imagined having Joe Cocker sing what would eventually become "Right Now."

It's anyone's guess really as to what was actually recorded as demos.

"Love Walks In" was the first thing Sam and Ed wrote together, so that definitely wasn't lying around when Dave was there.

Stuff like "Best Of Both Worlds," "Good Enough" and "Summer Nights" were probably done with Dave.

And that's all I was saying.

If you listen, and your ears don't bleed, you can hear some of those compositions on those tunes you mentioned Brett sounding Davish here and there.

Yentl put his two cents in of course, and they changed a bit, but you can surely listen to Summer Nights, add some groove to it, and here Dave rollin' with that tune, as well as a couple of others.

It's sorta like what would happen though if I got a 65 Mustang to work on in the driveway. I'd make the muscle car, and my wife would paint the mother pink.

I personally refuse to believe Dave had anything to do with the lyrics on 5150.

Part of daves lawsuit a few years ago stated that dave CAME UP WITH THE MELODIES FOR THE SONGS so in a way dave was involved in the process more than all yall think

yeah but people arent getting to the point. Its a fairly safe assumption that anything with a synthesizer was pretty much eddie and sammy's doing because its a well stated fact that dave couldnt stand the fake sound of the synthesizer. Although dave would probably acknowledge that Jump was the success that it was due to the effective use of the synthesizer there is definitely more to it. The factors that contributed to van halens demise are in my opinion
                      1. Valerie Bertinelli
                      2. Eddies synthesizer
                      3. Eddie's drinking problem
Eddie is the one to blame for them breaking up and he is keeping them from having a reunion due to his drinking.

                        Bro,

We both KNOW that "Summer Nights" was done with Dave as "Eat Thy Neighbor." Fuck, it used to be posted at the "Official" site where they listed all of the unreleased stuff. Remember that my friend?

Anyway and I don't care what anyone says or what sort of shit I get for saying this but fuckin' "BOBW" has that old "CVH" vibe to it, excluding Hagar's lyrics and horrific vocals. It has the same sort of groove as "Drop Dead Legs." IMHO.

I totally agree with said songs we've both mentioned that were done with Dave. Still, if Ed was going to town on the Steinberger as with "Eat Thy Neighbor" wouldn't you think that they maybe did "Get Up" with Dave as well? Personally, whatever ended up as that final song has always sounded half-assed to me anyway. Regardless, it would make sense.

I'd also assume that some sort of a keyboard tune was worked on cos "Jump" was such a smash? Dave would've gladly participated in the sequel I would think. Maybe that's where and why Ed bashed Dave regarding "Dreams?" Ed might have thought it would be a great keyboard oriented single followup to "Jump" or "I'll Wait" but Dave just couldn't/wouldn't do a "power ballad" sort of riff?

                        What are your thoughts Hobson?

No way with the keyboard stuff at all. Have you listened to "EEAS?" It's full of synth. I'm sure after the success of "Jump" Dave could give a shit either way. Fuck, you're telling us that Dave's "hatred" of the friggin' synth was a factor in his departure from VH? lmao

Go back to "Dancing In The Street." That was originally a keyboard riff Ed had intended for another song. However, Dave wanted to cover DITS so badly that Ted Templeman suggested Ed use the riff for the song.

Then we have one of Dave's biggest solo singles "Just Like Paradise" and that was written by his keyboard player and Vai fucking hated it.

I agree. Plus the 4 "Crazy from the Heat" EP tracks are not really a declaration of hate towards synthesizers either... And "Skyscraper"?...

ALAE isn't synth-free, but they sound so much better.

Dave doesn't hate synths at all, that's for sure!

I've hear the Diamond One discuss his keyboards on a couple of occasions. He wasn't against keyboards, he was against Edward playing keyboards. I remember sometime around Dave's best of Album, him talking about the frustration of Edward playing the keyboards, as opposed to his tech playing the keyboards during a show. And repeating the sentiments that it was a waste for Edward to play keyboards when he was so good with the guitar.

I don't think Jump changed his mind on that at all. I think the bottom of it all was that keyboards weren't really the issue with Dave, just Eddie playing them.

As far as Davis LEAVING VAN HALEN as even a small reason the fact that Ed played keyboards is fucking laughable.

The root of the problem that led to Dave leaving was actually pretty simple. I have an interview here from Japan with Dave at the VH offices, and he's talking about Crazy From the Heat. It couldn't have been more than days before the official split was announced. The interviewer asked Dave, "What are your plans for Van Halen? Will you be touring Japan soon." Dave responded, "If it were up to me, we'd be Halenizing all of Asia. But look who's here at the offices. Just me. The lead singer wants to tour 10 months of the year. But when the rest of the band only wants to tour 2 months out of the year, it's hard to do much of anything."

Dave did CFTH because the rest of the dipshits were to busy doing everything but what a band should be doing when they are at the top of the world.

                              It's that simple.

Read CFTH, he says it in there a couple of times--
