And Mr Velvet... damn right we're old farts!! Get the fuck off my lawn!!
    I mean, I hope so.

It's more than mildly ridiculous that I even care enough to comment given my own age now - a middle-aged guy who was in his teens in the 80's when Roth was at his peak - but it's like ...it's still sort of disappointing nonetheless to see him out there not able to do the music justice. That last corporate gig he did a year or two ago that was put up online ...it was just fuckin' embarrassing to watch.

I don't want to see Dave wind up his performing career as an over-the-hill/freak show/shoulda packed it in years ago joke. Someone who when he performs produces more cringe than entertainment.

Maybe it has already come to that point, and maybe Dave just can't stop because he doesn't know anything else and to stop in his mind means to give up, and he's just afraid to pack it in.

For those of us old enough to experience Dave's performances in his prime... you're right Terry... knowing the amazingness Dave was capable of, sets the bar at a reasonable height. Realistically his performances weren't note for note on key and in perfect pitch. But he delivered solidly for several decades.

Even though we're pushing 20+ years ago... Dave's solo performances weren't really up to par for his capabilities. In 2004/5 I think it was a matter of not caring and just letting it rip on stage. Then he did the Strummin with the Devil sessions, which I believe made him focus on the original melodies far more than he had ever done. Then the 2007/8 reunion performances were significantly better than anything he'd done in the previous 20 years. Rejoining the Van Halen clan stepped up his game for sure...

I think Dave has the ability to do quality vocal performances today... but he's gotta want it. That's the key. If he's going out with his Vegas cover band... I don't believe they challenge him to be his best. Just sayin...

I remember Dave very well during his prime as I saw several shows.

His persona, stage presence, humor....as a kid I wanted to BE Dave. He had it all.

He's been so influential and inspiring to my own life that despite his major shortcomings nowadays as a 70 year old, I have to respect the man for what he's done. Sure I hated listening to his deteriorating voice that got worse on the last two VH tours but it is what it was. And do I care to see him perform now? If hes around my neck of the woods I would go.

This is awesome for Dave. I’m genuinely glad for him !

and imagine, the festival organizers don’t need to lay out a ton of cash for the remaining lineup of burnouts and scabs
