I'm not dissing you Brett at all but in your opinion, what would be an alright move on his part? You've said that you think his voice is shot, you thought "Diamond Dave" sucked and you ripped on his Boston Pops performance. As for being in NYC, Dave has lived there off and on for years.

I mean what is Dave supposed to do, wait the rest of his life for Edward and Alex? Fuck no, the man likes to keep busy and try new things. I'm also willing to bet that he'll keep doing the occasional shows and maybe an album here and there.

This is just a different format. Dave's an entertainer by trade and I think he has both the talent and creativity to pull it off.

      What's wrong with that?

Seriously, you KNOW that both you and I are friends but I'm just engaging a little friendly debate here.
If he's just spinning records, any fucking monkey can do that. You guys say that's not what he's going to do...well that's all he's done though on those guest spots. He hasn't actually done a Stern-like talk show for 5 hours a day. It's not exactly easy to come up with material everyday, he will have to actually do work EVERYDAY. I'm not sure that's Dave's favorite thing to do.

An all right move? I don't know, make music...that's what he does best. I liked "DLR Band" and his voice certainly wasn't great on that, so I can certainly live with him not sounding like 1981 Dave. Just because I don't like some of the stuff he's done lately doesn't mean much, a lot of you guys do and you like going to see him play.

I just think this is a lame fucking move, it's what every washed up douche does...ala Ted Nugent, Dee Snider. It's like admitting your career is over. What's next, Dave gonna go on that stupid ass VH1 show with those has-beens?

Forget Van Halen, Van Halen is retired and Dave hasn't been a member in 20 years. There are other things in music he can do.

Look, even if you can't get it, I'm sure there is a way afterall. Gotta
be a website that can allow you to download and listen to it live. Perhaps the station itself will provide.

              ...
Exactly! Doing five-hours at drive time is not easy. Those guys that have shows like this (STERN, BOB & TOM, MANCOW) all keep regular office hours for writing, research, and meetings. They all have a staff of writers along with the regular on air side kicks. It's not like walking into the studio in the morning, then leaving right after the show is over.

DAVE is either going to spin records or he's going to have to work harder than he has for years. There will be no time for touring, music and the like; he's going to be doing this full time for years--if he makes it that far. The Ted NUGENT analogy won't work either, Ted just broadcasts to a local niche in a small Michigan market of a base of backwoods buffoons such as himself. ROTH is in a very discerning market, it's going to be very tough for him to make it, especially if he tries to do a political show in an already saturated market. He's spinning records people, because the redundant "look at all the people listening today!" style of Daveisms won't work day in, day out...

                This sucks.

                Bad move.

NOT because of Dave, but because the radio industry BLOWS. It used to be bad, now it's just unbearable.

The fucking industry changes air talent as frequently as most people (Jesterstar excluded) change underwear.

Honestly, I love Dave, you love Dave, we all love Dave. But he's not enough in the mainstream for everyone else. And even if he was, he's still an "acquired taste" for many people.

Those fucks at Infinity won't give him the latitude and the time he needs to build up a head of steam and be successful.

They're gonna clamp down on him from jump street because they're so fuckin' scared of the FCC.

He'll end up hating it and the whole thing will probably implode on itself. Probably within one year.

The potential embarrassment factor on this one is high....

Am I the only one that thinks this may be bullshit considering the source (FOX News)?

We'll hear what STERN has to say about this this morning...

I am glad he is doing something different.
Sitting at home doing nothing just waiting for material to come into your brain to do a record doesn't help anybody, I mean if he is not getting anything to put a record together better he does something different be it paramedic or radio maybe from the experience he will come up with new material for a new record you never know.
I hope things will go well for him.

Okay, Howard is commenting on this. He does believe that Roth is coming to Infinity, but that management keeps denying in order to "build up suspense." So who knows?

But it's not really "official" yet since Infinity themselves refuse to acknowledge that Roth was hired for the east coast gig. Stern also commented that Adam Corolla told him he was hired for the LA affiliate, even though Inf. management is denying it.

And maybe thats what interests Dave in this matter is the challenge? Dave is all about hard work... staying busy, immersing himself in his current projects... for ten months out of the year. I am not so sure I can see Dave doing it for years-but then if you consider the possibility of him continuing to "tour" with his current music for years, I don't see that either.

He's spinning records people, because the redundant "look at all the people listening today!" style of Daveisms won't work day in, day out...
And this attitude here is the one positive thing i see in Dave doing the radio gig.

David has always had so much more to offer the world than the bleach blonde beach bum stage presence...and Dave doing the same show over and over is not what I want to see Dave going out being remembered as doing.

Why does everybody think Dave's going to be spinning records? The morning commute is one of the best radio gigs you can get. They don't just offer you a syndicated show if they don't trust you can do it. Personally I never really cared for Stern but that's going to be one hell of pair of shoes to fill. I think Dave can do it. It should be funny as shit. It's not like he's going to be paralyzed in front of a mike for 4 or 5 hours by himself. They have comedians, strippers, bands dropping in from time to time. I think he'll kick ass. He can pull it off if that's what he really wants to do. Like someone said earlier, give it about four months and then see where he's at as far as continuing.
There are those that do and those that don't. Those that didn't see what those that did had done and wish they had especially when "She looked so F#*kin GOOD"

David Lee Roth To Take Over Howard Stern Show Permanently

                                October 11, 2005 8:00 a.m. EST

Douglas Maher - All Headline News Staff Reporter

New York, NY (AHN) - It's official. Diamond David Lee Roth wins the radio slot that will become vacant when Howard Stern exits for Sirius Satellite Radio.

However, Roth will not gain all of Stern's currnet market share, according to a report from Fox News. "Man Show" host Adam Carolla will most likely carry the west-coast markets that Stern currently has.

Infinity Broadcasting is expected to make the announcement this week on which stations will carry Roth and Carolla's programs.

Roth as recently as last year was a paramedic in New York City and toured with a solo band in select cities around the U.S., before that he was on-tour with former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar in a Sammy Vs. Dave tour that played to packed arena's nationwide.

Both Eddie and Alex Van Halen recently stated a reunion with Roth will "never happen", leaving many classic Van Halen fans to settle for Roth's talents on the radio instead.
                                Same ole song and dance...
