I agree with mr. white....get his ass back in the eye of the public and his tours will become bigger and bigger. I'm telling you guys this is the RIGHT move for Dave right now. More exposure means more tours and more fans!!!!!
Well, if Greg Kihn's career is any clue (he was the one hit wonder.. Jeopardy from the 80s), he's a DJ in the Bay Area... and granted, he has nowhere near the persona or stories or reputation of DLR, but he hasn't put out a song in, well.... since the 80s.
Hell, the great thing about DLR being on the radio is the chance to hear him pontificate on various topics and joke around every day... the downside is we'd all rather have him working on music instead.
I've got mixed feelings about this radio bit... not sure how it will turn out... not necessarily opposed to it, per se, but it does indicate that DLR/VH are possibly that much further apart which only reinforces my disappointment in never seeing the boys reunite for one last hurrah...

That is all.
Icon.
I totally agree. I am a bay area girl, currently living down the street from DLR's place and I used to hear Greg Kihn on the radio. He has absolutely no stories and can only glory in the one hit he got recognition for.....I've seen Greg Kihn live and he is a good performer...at least he was in the day...but DLR...now he's a whole different thing.
I believe he is doing the DJ gig as simply that....a GIG....not long term - he's too much in demand for us who need our fix for him to resign to sitting behind a microphone for the rest of this life. I think he's too hyper to do that for any stretch of time. This is a pit-stop (hopefully) for him. I don't see this gig to be more than a year? We will need to email and call into the station...let him know we what we want from him as far as concerts, etc. - at least we might have a chance to tell him directly instead of trying to communicate on his lame crazy website that has no webmaster corresponding with him whatsoever.
Dave is the ultimate adventurer and I tell you, when he decides to write the Autobiography of his life adventures....it's going to be on the New York Times Best Sellers List for decades to come! What a Life he has lived!!
:D
"Meet us in the Future.....NOT the Pasture".......DLR, August '07, VH Press Conference - Tour '07-'08
Listening to Kihn is like watching paint dry. He act's like he was a fucking MEGASTAR, not a guy with only a couple of songs anybody ever heard of. While I'm not gonna blast Dave for doing this(and collecting a nice paycheck), I don't think it's the right move. He hasnt recorded original material in 7 plus years, and he's only playing a handful of shows a year..........and NOW he's gonna show EVERY DAY for a radio gig?! Unless the ratings are GREAT, I don't know how long he's gonna be into this. It's not like the stage, where fans are cheering pretty much everything you do........
Dirty Duck has the right idea. Goes along with the adage that any press is good press. If he's even a little successful, because he's DLR, it will seem like a huge success. If he's hugely successful it could lead to bigger and better things. Maybe even a reunion. Who knows.
If he's unsuccessful...well, he'll be back where he started and only the true fans will pay him any attention.
I give him my full support and will continue to hope that it leads to the reunion most of us have been waiting for. If his show is broadcast online I'll be tuning in for sure.
This radio gig will boost the sales of all DLR recordings including the early VH classics. However, this gig will make any future touring--solo or reunions--contractually impossible. I think this further reinforces the fact that a VH reunion is less and less a possibility.
My vote is that DLR doing the full time radio show is a bad idea. It has to mean less time DLR can devote to stage performances and to new music. Can't foresee DLR straying far from New York for the duration. The many DLR fans in far off places around the world who have not had opportunity to see DLR live in quite some time are less likely than ever before to get that opportunity now.
PS 7884...lmfao...how about esplainin' why you think it's a bad idea...lmfao...like you told everyone else to do...
I like Roth because he's a frontman...and a fucking radio hack.
This isn't going to put him in public eye any fucking more than he is or isn't.
He's following fucking Stern...and love him or hate him...Stern was the best at what he did. If Roth fails at this...which is distinctly possible...
put another nail in the coffin...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."
