Re: Another "I Love Dave, But..." Thread
I, for one, will not automatically slam someone for speaking negatively about Dave...we all are allowed our own opinions...
BUT
To say the show 'sucked' is going to far. It definately did not suck. It was actually pretty good. Better than I expected. Yeah, I said it.
And, to say that he was nervous...I didnt get a hint of nervousness. I think he was WAY more nervous-sounding during the Boston week.
But whatever dude. I think you might have been expecting something different...like maybe you were expecting retarded phone sex, anal ring-toss and stories of masturbation...that's not what this show is going to be.

Dave's been a major positive influence on my life.
I respect his intelligence, him as an artist, and I love the music he's created. I've been to six concerts with him and his band the last five years.
But this morning's show sucked.
As a host of a four-hour long radio show, he's got to learn to move the attention off of himself and on to whatever issues of the day or people of the day or philosophies he wants to talk about.
Even the interview...his uncle Manny seems like a cool enough man, but Dave's job as an interviewer is to focus the interviewee and provide narrative for him...not use the interviewee as a tool to promote oneself, which is what Dave did when he constantly referred to Manny as "the man who pushed DLR into showbiz!" (to paraphrase in a hyperbolic way).
Also, he really needed to push Manny along a little quicker. It was almost like the whole thing was a leisurly interview one would have taped for oneself, and THEN used as material to condence into something for the air or print - not the actual interview itself.
Also - to fill up FOUR HOURS of entertainment (I don't care who your are or how interesting you think you can be) you need to have a list of topics...topics besides oneself. Inheriently, when one is espousing opinions, one's personallity is going to come out - no need to narrate one's personality.
On the bright side, based on all the wonderful interviews I've read with Dave over the years and the Boston radio gig's last few days, I think he will get better. I think he was nervous.
In the last few days of the Boston show he did...he tempered his inner monologue (let his stories tell themselves instead of bragging about everything) and seemed to act more natural - and his intelligence came out and the show was MUCH better.
