          HA!

So...Rudy built the guitar for EVH...

and DAVE had the idea (and paint) to stripe it........

DAVE and ed must have had a disagreement about the second album cover! DAVE must have told ed 'you design it then!' Hence the plain basic cover!

The entire "striping" thing 'tis plausable but who knows? BOTH camps have always said that Dave was more about the show and image whereas Ed was about the music.

I still and will ALWAYS buy the fact that Dave bailed cos Ed was handing in Journey Speedwagon riffs for him to work off of. Dave can do pop as we all know. Just not that boring and cliched 80's synth pop shit that Van Hagar churned out.

Fuck, I'll NEVER forget the first time I heard "Love Walks In" by my formerly favorite band. I about puked.

Can anybody imagine Dave's face when presented with rubbish of that magnitude?

Did Dave say the idea for the guitar was his? I say bullshit. Maybe Dave suggested the wild paint job or something, but I'm not buying that he said, "hey Ed, get a Strat and drop a humbucker in it." In fact, I'm not buying the paint job suggestion either. :D

Oh boy, talkin' axes 'tis something you never stray from and that is a good thing.

Seriously, I could see Dave suggesting a wild paint job, considering Ed couldn't have given a shit either way. Also and we all know that Dave and Rudy Leiren were bros from reading CFTH and Ed's reunion comments after playin' golf with Ravin' Rude.

But come on BS1, 'tis absolutely ludicrous to even suggest (even joking) that Dave had a hand in the sound of the axe. I know you were kidding but Dave always said that early VH needed to be "girl friendly." So, why not add some flash to the paint?

Seriously, I don't think Ed's bright enough with that aspect. It's his (or was) his talent as a musician that worked for him.

Anyway, I don't see what the BFD is anyway? Dave says: "Ed, you should paint your guitar something funky to stand out."

Ed replies: "Cool and I don't give a fuck."

                        See what I mean?

I could totally see Dave suggesting it as well...I like the 'flash to the paint' line.

Saw BS1 on the Metro amp board the other day and for a second I was like "I know that dude!" Ah, we're all fuckin' gearheads...

                            Thanks mang.

Seriously, like Eddie gave a shit? I mean he butchered guitars left, right and center for the sound. You think he gave a flying fuck about the finish?

I still crack up about the recording of one album, cannot remember which but where Eddie took a hacksaw (had Ted Templeman hold it right in the studio) and sawed off one of the "horns" off an SG so Ed could get to the higher frets. lol

He took a screwdriver to Mikey's original Yamaha bass too. He told Mike that it needed some character.

What, just aimlessly drilled holes in the bass with a Mikita or just scratched the fuck out of it?
