I recently heard the original line-up of the group Asia was getting back together. so I decided to make a post on an Asia website. I made a small reference about Asia using the name Asia even though they hired a different singer, ala Van Hagar.


anyway this guy makes this remark......

tell me this doesnt piss you off. I mean Asia isnt even in the same league as DLR and original VH but I liked them. but it kills me to hear a dumb remark like this and shows how spammy has brain washed people. I told him he must be an air supply fan too...... what a loser!

Damn, you'd figure folks on an Asia message board would be a bit more adept @ musical opinions. I mean, the band was kind of a "supagroup." Saying Hagar is a better musician than DLR is kind of subjective, but dumb-assed' nonetheless. DLR's diverse and expansive knowledge of music genre's was a defining aspect of CVH....it was reflected in THE FUCKING LYRICS. Lyrics dictate arrangements, yadda-yadda...blah fucking blah.

What pisses me off is how dicks constantly refer to Dave as just a showman. His voice is so unique and I think he brought / brings so much to his music simply because of his love and appreciation of ALL styles of music. Dave sings the blues like no other.

Sammy sings flat. Thats a fact. I have always thought that Sammy seemed like an ok human being, but the fact is he is not a good singer. His voice grates. He does not hit those high notes, he shrieks them and they are normally half a semitone off.

Listen to Big Trouble, Dave not a musician? Give me a break.

See, I've never heard anything Hagar has done that would even put him in a high caliber of musicianship, far as I can tell.

I mean, it's not like I'm automatically disposed to dislike Hagar just because I'm a huge fan of CVH and Roth, either.

I just don't care for Hagar strictly for what Hagar is, regardless of any Hagar/Roth comparisons.

Hagar just has average lyrics, displays average guitar-playing skills and comes up with very avergage songs. There's just nothing exceptional or unique about the guy...AT ALL. Somehow, the fact that Hagar has a naturally higher singing range than Dave is mistaken for Hagar being a "better singer". Well, Sam's got the one octave he can pull off comfortably, has no bottom-end to his voice and his screams just sound like annoying screeches to me.

If Sammy put out stuff that was anything other than forgettable, I'd have no prob being a fan of his stuff REGARDLESS of how I feel about Dave and CVH. And I'd be willing to guess that the more intelligent members of this site, of which there are many, would feel the same.

People here don't like Sam because, well, basically...he sucks

Asia, IMO, became a MUCH BETTER BAND when John Wetton left...John Payne is a fucking brilliant musician, songwriter and an awesome, awesome singer...

I'm sorry, but Wetton was 5 minutes in the 80's and John Payne's been at the front of that band delivering AWESOME material for what, fifteen years?

I personally think the original Asia reforming is a step backwards, personally...

I understand what your saying and alot of JP fans say that. but JP/Asia never acheived the status the original line up did and they only had 3 albums. alot of hard core fans, hell music fans in general will disagree with what I am gonna say but, sales talks and the current asia will never touch the status the original did. personally they are another VH but on a lesser scale, much less. but they did the same thing and tried to cash in on the former bands name and they should have went on with a different name.

no one but hard core fans would know the current Asia if they heard it on the radio and if they heard it was Asia they would say it sounds nothing like Asia. wetton has a very distinct and very recognizable voice, it was the voice of Asia. the songs are classic , even the non hits. nothing JP has done has reached the radio or would be considered classic. sorry but the passerby fan makes or breaks whats a classic group and Asia with JW is very well known for what they did in the 80's. the songs stand up today!
