Dave's problem with Guitarists after VH

I think that one problem Dave has is that he hasn't had a guitarist that has fought with him like Eddie and him fought (argue). I think that the guitarists ever since Dave split with VH in 85 have either kiss David's ass or semi kissed his ass. Vai is semi catagory.

I think that Dave needs a guitarist that will argue with him and fight with him about the music. Then we will see better and better music.
Don't get me wrong I love all of Dave's solo albums. But I just think if Dave had a guitarist that he argued with him constantly maybe the music would be better.

I think the recent guitarists say Yes Sir to Dave instead of Hey man I like this riff I dont care lets put it in the song.

Conflict. Isnt that one thing that David said that made Classic Vh work?

No way Eddie was gonna kiss Dave's ass, and rightfully so. They were both there from the beginning.

Bart and Brian I really don't consider anything more than hired guns/Eddie soundalikes. They're in the band to perform a function which has been previously defined.

Roth's biggest problem is that he's so identified with Van Halen, that virtually every guitarist he plays with will feel the need to throw a bunch of Eddieisms in the writing.

Terry Kilgore was one player who worked with Dave who didn't seem to feel pressured to write in a style that aped Van Halen. If anything, Dave needs to work with a guitarist who's secure in his own style and confident in his own writing skills.

I don't even think Dave has to worry about straying too far from the Van Halen sound in terms of commercial results, because he's probably never gonna sell a million albums of solo material again regardless of what he does.

I'd have to agree with you. Dave has even said in recent interviews that the constant tention between band members is what made the sound that we all grew up to. So yes, you are probably on to something.

What I would add to Sarge's remark is that Dave's former guitarists want payment for service.

Bart Walsh had a little thing come up where he moved out of California and now teaches guitar seminars on the east coast, particularly North Carolina where he's from.

Smart choice he made to do without the big durtee black wig.

SMARTER choice to go back home after many years of being out here, playing clubs and trying to make it. Music scene is never going to recover the way it used to be, and Bart finally decided to come in out from the fucking cold.

Godpseed to Bart.. Southern California's a bitch to live in and deal with now. Clubscenes' no fun at all anymore so I say he's made the right decision to bail the state.. whether or not he had to.

I'm all for Dave makin new kick ass music. But I agree - do it in a way that doesn't force people to compare it to old Van Halen. Cause lets face it - its a losing situation!
