    Uh yes!

Eddie has even been quoted in interviews that ATBL was influenced by the punk music at that time. He said the song was directly influenced as his own take on the punk thing at the time and he was embarresed to present the riff and bones of the song to the band because he thought it was so lame.

Music is music, labels for styles of music are more or less created by fuckhead music critics. Classic Van Halen is as punk as punk as you can fucking get. Punk was originally about attitude and telling the system to fuck off, not about skateboards, Vans and eyeshadow.

The CVH attitude embodies everything the punk ethos stood for and some of those nuclear songs are as punk as you can get.

I always thought the Pistols fucking kicked ass anyway.

That's all folks. No punk, no this, no that. From 78-84, simply the greatest band on the planet.

And it would have been a lame tune, had VH not done it. And yes I know what Ed said about ATBL. I don't care if he thought it sounded like fucking country music, I see little Punk influence in Van Halen's music. Maybe the reckless nature of their attitude was punk-ish, but their musicianship was light years beyond punk.

Edward said that BOTH ATBL and Romeo Delight were intentionally written to mock punk rock. lmao

Way too much talent and musicianship from CVH to ever play punk. Why? Cos you have to suck to be a true punk rocker. Was part of the attitude.

Sort of, but not in the way you're thinking.

Rock music in the first half of the 1970's was dominated by "concept albums", 20 minute solos, and rock bands who thought they were fucking symphonic orchestras.

Elvis, Chuck Berry, & Buddy Holly never would have made records like that. Basically, the feeling was that rock n roll took a detour after Sgt. Pepper and it was time to set the course right.

The Ramones drove that point home by choosing a look and a name that paid tribute to the early Beatles. The leather jackets and jeans were what the Beatles wore in their Hamburg days, and the Beatles used stage names in those days. McCartney called himself "Paul Ramone".

Thank GOD for punk. I'd rather listen to the Ramones first 4 albums over and over again for days than listen to pretentious art fags like ELP.

The fact that a classically trained musician like Eddie Van Halen could embrace the energy and attitude of punk (while still playing more than three chords) only proves that the punks did their job right

              Ford,

I'm by no means tryin' to dis nor deny the importance that the punk rock genre brought into the music world. Even though I love disco I remember the way the music was back in the 70's. Yes, I do even though I was a little kid but I've LOVED wimmin', music and football since I was a little teeny kid.

I was just commenting on what Edward said VH was attempting to do with those two aformentioned songs.

Joey Ramone once said that, at the time they started out playing to 4 or 5 people a night, everything was second generation Zeppelin, overproduced or just crap...the whole concept was to get back to the basic rock and roll approach, 2 minute songs that were unpretentious, uncomplicated, loud, rowdy and so forth...I'm paraphrasing, but the gist is the same...

Very much true - however, I REALLY like those pretentious art fags ELP!

I just think the 70's were a fucking KICK ASS time musically...so much shit going on it was ridiculous...
