The mick jagger example is right!
but dave's body is heavier, and i think mick havent got problems
and mick doesn't jump like dave did ...so everyone is expecting Dave to jump and kick ..i think he can't do it anymore
but at least he got the high scream back!

Frankly, I wouldn't mind if Dave cut down on the airborne stuff, and focused on the vocals a tad more... Againg could make Dave a little better in some ways...

          Roth on Matt!

When I saw him in 04 at Casino Rama..he did one "Air Roth" off the drum riser at the very end of the show during JUMP.

Last summer at Kahunaville...not one...a few spinning back kicks here and there yeah.

BOTH shows kicked ass...as Dave was on top of HIS game vocally and enthusiastically as usual.

The man is 51...not 31....and quite honestly....I like the shows of the recent years that I've seen more, now that he is focused on just delivering the music and entertaining the crowd.

I have to agree. And as Carmine says, at Rama in '04 he

did quite a few kicks and the jump off of the riser.

But he had knee surgery in '05 which restricted his mobility.

He still did a few kicks at Wilmington and Sarnia but not much.

His set was also about four songs shorter in '05.

But the vocals and the band were spot on. I hope Dave tours this

summer, I will catch a bunch of shows!!!

Saw him in St.Pete in November of 2005, and the physicality of his show was a bit toned down from what I've seen in the past, no doubt.

No splits off the drum riser, several kicks, more or less pacing the stage but not running around it. But I really put this down to age more than anything else. I dunno about him being heavier or anything like that, but maybe when you get towards 50 a few years takes more of a toll on you than when you're 30...I'd have to imagine so.

I didn't get the sense that he was punching a clock or anything, or going by the numbers (although lord knows he certainly could by now with the sameness of his setlist over the last half-decade)...he genuinely seemed enthusiastic to be there, and the audience was surely digging it and singing along with every song.

His vocals were solid. As for the screams, well, he was good for a few of his short ones, but what I really remember was him grabbing vowels on a few songs where you wouldn't have expected him to and just elongating and belting the fuck out of them...it's been a long time since Outta Love Again, and his voice is never gonna be like that again in terms of those Joplinesque shrieks.

I mean, if you found it boring, that probably says more about you than anything else, and I'm not saying that in a defamatory way towards you at all. Me, I went to the show just wanting to have a good time, and Roth delivered. Wasn't the greatest show I'd ever seen, even by Roth, but it didn't leave me saying "This guy needs to pack it in, because this is getting ridiculous, either", and before I went to see him I was half expecting to walk out of there with that on my mind.

i saw him in 02 and then in 03....but man i dont know whats wrong..what a difference between seeing hima t the house of blues in 2003 compared to may of 2005.... i dont know...it wasnt bad...dont get me wrong..

but there was just ...didnt seem like a lot of 'umph' like he did just two years ago...

and i know what you mean terry about holding out these vowels and belting them out with lots of vibrato....sounds odd...i think he's trying to hold stuff out and really belt out a few things to make up for what he cant sing so well anymore...so if you see him hold out a few notes you might think at that particular moment, "look at that guy and how good he sings and how well he holds out those notes.."

he's singing a lot through his nose though...and when i saw the newest dvd, he's using the smile method of singing...which is nasaly...kind of a way to 'cheat' and hit notes...its not a natural voice

I caught the Dave and Sam tour in Jersey in the summer of 2002.

All I can say is Dave was amazing. He was all over the stage and his vocals were pretty strong....I was impressed. I had a great time and left to get more wasted in the parking lot when Sammy came on.

                      That was 2002.....

I have not seen him perform since cause it seems he's never in NY although he lives in Ny? ? ? ?

Anyway...from what I'm gettin Dave hasnt had the spunk he's known for. I take it as age....period. I also think that roth must hate the fact that he's not in his 20's anymore. Don't forget this was the man who made sure he wouldnt have his 30th birthday (Read the book). The guy's rock life force is stronger then many his age but lets face the facts. He's in his 50's and as long as he's performing without a walker I'm happy....

Seems like you're almost being hypercritical about it, but I will agree that Roth is showing signs of wear and tear, and of course there is a definite contrast to how he performs now vs. even a few years ago in several respects, but the spirit is still there.

It's funny that this was posted 'cuz I just got my hands on that same November show on DVD and noticed the same thing. He seemed to be going through the motions and his 2002 show was much better. For whatever reason, it was evident.
