Not a good review. But thought I would put it up here for discussion.
"David Lee Roth: Even More 'Bland And Painful'
April 04, 2006
By Paul Heine
The train wreck known as Roth Radio sank to a new low Tuesday (April 4) when David Lee Roth, in an act of defiance, resorted to reading the comics on the air.
Reeling from an apparent management directive to read and comment on the news, the embattled talk show host wannabee was audibly taken off his mark by a listener phone call. Your show is garbage, bring back J.V. & Elvis, the caller said, referring to the WFNY (Free FM) New York midday team who subbed two days last week for Roth after he went AWOL during what was supposed to be a week’s worth of broadcasts from Miami’s tony South Beach.
Admitting his show sucked, Roth blamed local and corporate management, accusing them of neutering his program by firing much of his on-air support team, taking away his cherished music beds and restricting the topics he can talk about.
Making numerous derogatory comments about CBS Radio CEO Joel Hollander, Roth said he believes management intends to make his show so “bland and painful” that he will quit and the company will not have to pay him.
Roth did read the news--apparently without bothering to pre-read the stories, before making an impromptu decision to read the funnies instead.
Based at WFNY, Roth replaced Howard Stern on January 3 on CBS Radio stations in Philadelphia, Boston, Dallas, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and West Palm Beach. "
