    CRADLE WILL ROCK intro sound!

Can't fool me with a rubber duck! They put a microphone in the front fender of a red 1954 Ford and parked it next to a rainbird water sprinkler to get this sound! You think they would have used a blue truck for a bluegrass song!

      Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love!

Killer intro! Straight to the heart strings!

I've lied in bed awake for years imagining what these songs would sound like with a banjo/fiddle/mandolin jam!

I wish Roth sang all the tunes...the other folks are talented...but they ain't Roth.

"I'll Wait" is definetely my favorite so far. Just seems to lend itself well to the genre...that "I'm comin' straight for yore heart" lyric suddenly has the feeling of a Hatfield deep in LUST with a McCoy chick!

The arrangements are fucking incredible. Blows that Hayseed Dixie stuff off the map.

The vocals are the weakest part...

Alright, had the CD for some time now, and gave it a few listens, here's what I came up with.

When Van Halen sang these songs, they came out as full blast, heavy hitting, full of energy tunes, regardless the lyrics. This was inpart due to the band's attitude and ego, stage presence, you know what I mean. When carried over to bluegrass, the lryics take over it feels like. Jump is still an uplifting song, but Jamies Crying turns into a slower ballad, because the lyrics are about a "sad" situation, ya dig? Runnin' With the Devil is haunting, so to speak, so this translates to the music, same with Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love.

Now, as for song by song. .

                Jump
Actually, I like it! I like the original, I like this version. Always upbeat and uplifting, Roth does an excellent job here

                Jamie's Cryin'
Turned into more of a "typical country ballad" Sad-sounding, but flows very nicely, again, Roth sounds stellar.

                I'll Wait
Awesome, haunting solo. like he said on the radio show, it belongs in a movie.

                Runnin' With the Devil
I liked this version too, the intro carried over well.

                Dance the Night Away
Still a cool song, even when bluegrass. The dude singing on it did a good job getting the mood on it right.

                Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
Okay, no. Hated it, dislike the voice.

                Hot for Teacher
Kind of a novelty track I guess. It's a classic, and would be a sin to not have it on a CVH album, but I would have liked some vocals.

                Feel Your Love Tonight
Eh, borderline. I love the original, and somewhat this one too, but not 100%, no idea why.

                Panama
                Pretty cool sounding.

                Unchained
NO! This song just jumps around too much or something, like I can't just link it to the original. The "I can't get there from heeeeeeeeere" ect part sounds too forced, with no emotion.

                And the Cradle Will Rock
Eh, take it or leave it.

                Could this be Magic?
Guitar tone or whatever sounds cool, I've always liked this song, and the original blows this one out of the water in the "laid back, front porch rainy day" atmosphere.

                Eruption
                Meh, was alright.

All in all, I liked the CD. I have a friend who's 100% country, HATES rock, and has no idea who EVH or Roth is. I put this CD in, and he loved it from start to finish, so I guess it's good in a country fan's eyes.

Best part of it was playing "Okay, what song is this?" with yourself when it starts. Roth mentioned that he didn't want a direct translation, but to "convert" it or whatever, and he succeeds. None of the songs sound like "white boys playing reggae", it's as if they were originally written as bluegrass tunes.

                Well worth my 17 bucks
Served hot, right from the rhythm kitchen.

I've heard clips of a few of the songs, excellent musicians for sure. That said, I could never sit through this entire album. Zero interest...

"I'll Wait" is the best rendition on the whole fucking recording.

                        IMO.
