it would probably get more hits than the big 3 combined...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."
Has anyone noticed that when Dave had his radio show. Dave eluded, then on a later show flat out said ED is (-out there -to me means to much alkeehaul) and it's affecting his health and his playing and his reunion inevitabilities.
Untill Dave started speaking what i percieve as the -truth- MA / Hagar
were silent and now that Dave put his balls out there and broke the ice
now these two feel the need to dis ED.
Seems the whole world is concerned about ED or feels free enough to talk about it, since Dave has done all the hard work..?Yes / No..?
Now, I have to say this...Mike's never had anything negative to say about Ed and Al since 1977...not publically, anyway...
I wonder how much of this is prompted by Sam...and what Ed apparently had to say about Mike back in 1982 (?) in that Guitar magazine interview...how Mike just cashes the checks and doesn't contribute anything? That just recently surfaced, right?
I'm guessing Mike wouldn't be saying shit if he thought there was any chance that Van Halen (as a band) was going to be active in the future...why else would he put his role with them into risk?
I certainly don't think he'd do it for the 100 odd fans that show up to see Sammy...and I don't think he'd do it for an hour or so on stage with those 100 people, either...
My guess is Ed and Al gave him the boot recently and threatened him with legal remifications if he said anything before they chose to make it official...I can't see Mike justifying shit-talking his meal ticket regardless, Hagar being his drawing influence or no...
I think all this stuff from Mike and Sam lately just has two purposes:
1) get attention for their current tour
2) make excuses for the half-filled halls they encountered in 2004
Both of them knew going in that the only Van Halen Reunion that would really generate any massive interest and multiple sell-out dates wouldn't have Sammy or Gary in the lineup. They fuckin' knew it from the outset.
Mike knows what the fuckin' fans wanna see. So does Sammy. Thus, Hagar churning out his comments about how crucial Mike Anthony's background vocals were to the CVH sound, IMO, is geared towards hyping MA's participation in these shows as some sort of drawing point: "Wow, the BASS PLAYER from Van Halen is playing with Hagar!"
The 2004 tour was probably doomed to flop from the minute Hagar called up AVH and kissed his ass; people wanna see Roth with Van Halen. Who wants to see the other half of Van Hagar playing Pudcake?
Admittedly, it was much more interesting when Ozzy brought Geezer out on tour back in...what was it, '89/'90? People went nuts about that...speculation that Sabbath would reunite was all the talk, I remember...
Sam and Mike are probably fishing for the same sort of interest without the "reunion" speculation...I don't think either Sam or Mike could fool themselves about that...
One DLR/CVH reunion tour is worth what 3 Sham Hagar/Van Halen tours are and everybody knows it...
Once again, I gotta say it - Mike isn't the problem, he'll do what he's told to...Sam isn't the problem...it's Ed and Al that are the problem...
And it seems more so Ed at this point...
Hell, maybe Sam and Mike are actually onto something...
Originally posted by Nickdfresh I was under the impression that Roth's suit regarding the royalties he received from the six-pack sales was bounced out of court. Mainly, and I'm no lawyer, because he had renegotiated his deal when he split from Van Halen in 1985. At that point, the royalties were roughly equal. But, the band known (erroneously) as Van Halen renegotiated on the eve of the release of the remasters, and Dave was cut out of the loop. His lawsuit was borderline frivolous because he was not part of Van Halen in 1998 (or so) and therefore was unable to renegotiate with them, and was unable to force a renegotiation of his own, dated, royalties agreement.
I could be wrong, but I think that was the outcome of it all... It sort of sucks, since he did write the lyrics, but...
That's what I heard too. It does seem unfair, they were all making 30c a record and that rose to dollar for all except Roth.....
My understanding of what Ed & Alex demanded of Mike is that it didn't involve signing away royalties or rights to the VH name.
It was that they wouldn't split things four ways and let him be an equal-sharing partner in any tour profits, like he was before. They made him take on a paid-employee role instead of being a fully equal band member. This apparently was retribution for his friendliness with Sam during the split.
Very prickish and stupid.
"What we've been doing, which is great and certainly cost saving, is I train in the sand pit in McDonald's. I do a few laps. I go through the tunnel a few times. The kids don't mind if I smoke. Plus, when I'm done, lunch is right there."- DLR 2003
Yep. Michael Anthony... Won't draw a crocodile's tear from me.
What a jerk. Having Dave fronting for a decade before him and tolerating that swine Gagar without frowning...
He will never be considered as a speck of shit to the degree he really desserves to be. The hell with him!

Originally posted by Nickdfresh I'm not Michael Anthony's biggest backer or anything, but does this seem like the shittiest thing that the Sisters could have done? Using playing in the band as leverage? WTF.
