Ed goes from lookin' like a casual, shoe-polished-hair legend in the promo pictures, to some mutated Pebbles Flintstone (props to Mr. Walker) airing his toes out.

Every single clip I had the misfortune of viewing from that fleecing, (tour) was a cunplete abomination. Forget the vocals again. Half-assed riffs, forgotten solos.....TONE??? I actually liked the deal where he accosted unsuspecting milfs @ dinner. THAT was the only highlight.

Then the meltdown...smashing art guitars....etc.

WAS he a great guitarist?

Both those songs rock my world and the guitar playing is stunning. To top it all off, they are both incredible songs with incredible guitar playing - a rarity in any for any song.

I love the Army, I love coming here, I even really enjoy Matts posts and think this place would be a whole lot less interesting without him around.

I will state again, I have an undying obsession with ED and I will go into bat for him if I think he has been unfairly slandered. In the case of a short clip of him jamming, how the fuck does this undo an entire career of genius?

I see the agenda being pushed here and I understand the bitterness, the MTV awards and aftermath broke my fucking heart. I just don't think Ed is a lost cause yet and I really do hold hope for the reunion with Dave.

Me Wise Magic is some excellent guitar work with a very unique solo by EVH. He has a habit of recycling riffs (the end of the Dreams solo being a carbon copy Eruption lick for example), so I was pleased to hear him do some new stuff with the MWM solo. The one thing I can say about EVH's recent playing, the 2004 tour and even this latest clip, he is really getting some amazing sustain on single notes - I wonder what his setup is these days. The brown sound is gone but the sustain is long. I hope he can pull himself together mentally and physically.

Listening to anything from that first Van Halen record still gives me shivers, just like it did way back in the 70's when I was a 17 year old kid. Eddie did something I will never do...he changed music, he inspired millions of people to pick up the guitar and dream, he changed peoples' lives. 28 years later people are still trying to cop the tone that poured out of our stereos. Shit, thank God, Eddie came along. Have we not all had bad days where we jammed with people that we didn't know and we absolutely sucked?? I sure have. I wasn't drunk, on drugs, just off chemo, divorced...I just sucked. I have shit of me playing on video that I wouldn't want anyone to see. Eddie looks a mess, but he's been through a mess. John Ou says "+1. guitar playing isn't a physical, strenuous activity like, say, drumming. " How old are you John? Fortunate enough not to have developed some sort of tendonitis, arthritis, carpal tunnel, etc. Haven't experienced getting on stage and going for that big bend and fuck all happens? Never been in tears because it hurts so much you're afraid you won't be able to play anymore? Never had a cyst the size of a quarter on your wrist caused by repetitive activity or lord forbid bad technique? Lucky you. Maybe not Ed's problem..someone said it is all speculation...he's obviously in some sort of pain. Only Eddie knows. It hurts me when I see him dirty, drunk and slummed out, it hurts me when he keeps a cigarette in his yap even after cancer...DUMB. Maybe the piranha's should just leave the poor guy alone and he'll recover on his own. Pray for the guy, don't shit on him.
