Without question he could do platinum, especially being that its Roth. Any band can with an ounce of talent can become bigger or as big as glory days with good marketing. Marketing is key to any success its not accidental and never has been in present day music. New bands with marginal musicianship can burst into million sellers easily if they are driven by capable promotion management; Linkin Park, Limp Bizcuit, Disturbed to name a few. Old schoolers who seemed to peak then die only to emmerge bigger and brighter under commercial leveraging are Aerosmith or Motley both left for dead only to come back bigger than ever with Permanent Vacation and Feelgood. Motley's formula was even more against the grain than others with recent activity by dying again after Feelgood treading water even after Vince reVoxing Swine and suffering T-less with New Tattoo-so they do the unthinkable Tour with no new album only leveraging by a way above the rim marketing effort. Orchestrated and promoted perfectly proving that last years Carnival of Sins threw them back on top because of great presentation and a re-tooling MOtley back kinto the Kiss like show not the artsy Swine/1994 direction the people couldnt give a fuck about=top 5 grosser as a result.
Dave with the same kind of leadership is exactly the same scenario. With the brothers it's effortless, without as DLR solo feasable to say the least. An easy way for Dave to stick it through the uprights is to take the Santana approach. A new batch of great songs, using other writers to ensure mainstream appeal a safe formula too, with Dave though his own pen can make it happen the Supernatural route with the right Guest Musicians; guitar, drums.....
Point is with the right skipper its a slam dunk that he could recapture an EEAS audiance at the least especially as tight as he is right now. Im convinced the radio show has made him a better performer in the regard of humbling with the realization he is a great singer and as he says "will always sing for his supper" wont ever be caught going the through the motions on any stage.

      Bang on the money.

Think about the current tour. Sure, we all know about it, but outside of Dave doing interviews, how was it promoted.

If he is only play 2-3000 seaters, that isn't necessairly an ndication of his level of popularity, but rather how many people heard about the tour.

A decent manager, and a record label behind him, could make a big difference.
