Am starting to think of Van Halen more and more in the past tense.
For a while, basically from 1999 to about 2002, still believed a full-fledged classic reunion would have been possible.
1996 was really a great chance to put it all back together, but that was blown.
Basically, the only thing new I'd like to see from Van Halen is a box-set, or some type of release that scoured the vaults in terms of CLASSIC previously unofficially released audio and video.
But now Alex says that ain't gonna happen either, so really have no use for or expectations from the current version of Van Halen.
Could Ed and Dave get together and make new music? Absolutely (with or without Alex. Same goes for Mike Anthony). I'd be interested to see what those two could come up with, even if it weren't a classic VH reunion. Throw Ed, Dave, Luzier and Sheehan in a room and see what happens.
Guess the question isn't so much if Dave could save Van Halen, but is he even gonna get a chance to try? Nope. AVH is gonna see to that.
I don't think the original Van Halen is going to reunite again after the 96 debacle speaking as an old VH/DLR era fan. It's time for old VH fans & some young VH fans to put that pipe dream of Dave returning to rest once & for all. I experienced Van Halen live in those days when they were the kings of rock as well as listening to those first six influential VH classic rock albums when they were first released. You can't turn back to the clock even though some of you would like to but I have my memories of those days when Eddie & Dave were the Page/Plant of their time.
Well EVH sounds like he is actually trying to play again. From what Ive been told, he can almost half play some of the classic material. So things are definately more positive. With a bit more practice Ed should be almost ready. Hopefully Dave will then decided its time to step back in :p
BABY PANA 2 IS Coming !! All across the land, let the love and beer flow ! Love ya Mary Frances!
Originally posted by Dr. Love I dunno. I'm kinda glad Dave left when he did. Van Halen was changing and I think if Dave had stayed it would have diminished the original 6 albums. 1984 is my least favorite album, and 5150 started the downhill spiral. They would have fought over the inclusion of the music for 'Dreams' and 'Love Walks In' and I don't want those songs associated with Classic VH.
If Dave had stayed with VH and put out 5150, it would have been a pretty big blow to the classic albums (despite whatever commercial success it may have had at the time, the album just isn't something that persists). It would have demeaned the rest of the catalog.
Totally on the money! Ed started to compose lame love songs on keyboards. And his guitar skills were stagnating(don't know if this is the right English word).
you really think dave can come back? everybody dreams for that but how can we stillbelieve it? personnaly, i hope david recorded soon a new album with his1986band
I don't dream that dave gets back with the sisters...they suck and they screwed him too often...I just hope that dave is out there, smiling, singing...and just being dave...

Van halen can still be repaired, but only if Dave is allowed to come back, and its got to be next year while they're still young enough to pull it off live.
1996 and 2000 were THE opportunities and it would have been huge, but the chemistry between Eddie and Dave will always be there so why not?
Despite the damage done to the VH name by the behaviour of the brothers and all the corny Sammy lyrics, there is still a massive interest in old school VH. Check out all the references to Classic VH in interviews with young bands. I think a full length new studio album by the original line-up could sell 3-5 million if promoted with plenty of press and backed up by a world tour.
