I think his guitar is kind of a security blanket. He seems to latch onto one particular one for awhile and he seems to have it on or nearby.
If you think about it. Ed probably always was a wierdo but he always had Roth or Hagar to do most the talking so he didn't have to and from what I hear, Van Halen management and Valerie were very good and keeping the skeletons in the closet so to speak.No!
