Tone is there, approach is not.
I hear very little effort.
MWM isw intricate and the compositional effort is apparent in the timing shifts, the intro, the build of the arrangement, the playing.

This is just effects and EQ carrying very little musical substance.

The chorus........

It sounds like something unfinished.

There is no raw abandon like in the early vh days, there is no raw emotion on this, and there sure a shell is no BROWN SOUND...

I have said before and will say again it is a bad Rob Zombie riff at the beginning, the main part is a "Beat It" rip off (listen it's Michael Jackson time again) and then the chorus is just bullshit...

THIS SUCKS...and I have listened at leat 8x now and it just keeps getting worse...

I dunno. I like the tone of it. The music is okay. The chorus sucks, the lyrics suck, the vocals suck.

Slap some Dave on it, change the arrangement and change the production on it and it's salvageable.

The Good:

- Ed's back to his 'brown sound';

- Ed finally mixed Mike's bass into it enough to tell he was there in the studio (unlike that last abortion, 'The Eddie Van Halen Project').

The Bad:

- Sammy;

- The lyrics (along with Ed's sound) are a sickening, blatant pander to Dave-era fans;

- Sammy;

- Ed's lead work sounds like it was dubbed in as an afterthought;

- Sammy;

- It was a filler cut, at best;

- Sammy.
