Well, comparatively speaking, I'm MUCH happier with Dave's lesser output than I am with a plethora of Van Hagar bullshit that polluted the radio waves throughout the 80's and 90's, so that's entirely fine with me.

Yes Dave missed all the #1 albums from the 80's and 90's. I did not miss DLR Band or Diamond Dave. Those 2 CDs are unlistenable demo recordings but I guess when your favorite singer doesn't know how to make music you end up listening to whatever subpar bullshit he puts out. BTW how many copies of those 2 CDs did people buy? Not many because those CDs suck. Put those together with YFLM and you've got quite a shit sandwich. The Police are selling out stadiums and VH can't even get it together to show up at a party!!!

Oh, I don't know...I'd say he did pretty well with, let's see, "Women and Children First", "Fair Warning", "Diver Down", "1984", "Crazy from the Heat", "Eat 'em and Smile", "Skyscraper", and "A Little Ain't Enough". The sound changed considerably with "Your Filthy Little Mouth", of course...I'm really amazed that it didn't sell better with the RIDICULOUS amounts of publicity and promotion that Warner Bros. was putting into him at the time.

Still, based on the other albums, you know, I'd venture a guess that David's music career in the 80's and into the early 90's actually did pretty good business, but of course I'm no expert on such matters...

Stripped back on budget doesn't equal bad or unlistenable. The counterpart to that, I guess, is the overproduced, contrived and convoluted messes that "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge", "Live: Right Here Right Now" and "Balance" were. Personally, I prefer a REAL approach to recording, but what do I know...

Well, let's see. "DLR Band" came out on his own label, and basically every copy of that was put together by his hands, when you get right down to it. Very limited release, very difficult to find even after it came out. So...yeah, I guess by way of plain and simply logic it wasn't going to sell particularly well, although when you add the numbers up comparatively against bands who release independently, "DLR Band" performed fairly well.

"Diamond Dave" sold about as much as any other artist on the Magna Carta label does, a bit better if memory serves. Which is really trange, when you stop to consider how much effort Magna Carta puts into promotion and distribution of their product, you know? Christ, WEA and Sony combined have NOTHING on Magna Carta in regards to resources! Magna Carta being THE biggest label on the planet, you gotta figure that "Diamond Dave" shoulda sold more, I guess...
