      Right.

      With or without Dave....

Different only if all 4 show up and PLAY.

Then only worth watching for that segment.

I actually enjoyed REM's performance. It's nice to see four mature people get up and play, and put their ego bullshit aside for fifteen fucking minutes.

If it were held in a public venue, say, not filled with record industry dudes and their families, Spambo and Assplayer would have felt it.

At one point, Sam thanked everyone who helped build Van Halen into what it was, than alluded that when he came into the band it was taken to even greater heights...

What greater heights were those, exactly?

Sammy still seems to think that Van Halen were some nothing band before he got into the group.

Just bugs the fuck out of me, because every half-assed rock journalist has been saying the same thing for years, yet CVH played sold out tours in the same venues that Van Hagar later did, CVH sold way more records, CVH was more productive in a smaller amount of time...oh yeah, Van Hagar headlined the Monsters Of Rock tour and had a few more top 40 hits...

I DVR'ed it so I could skip all the crap I didn't wanna see. And at first I thought I'd just forward through everything. But seeing Ronnie Spector and the Ronette's I stopped. Getting into the Hall of Fame is validation. Validation that you have done great things for music AND the industry. Validation that you do have talent and have had a successful career in music. For every dreamer on this board that owns an instrument, whether you've done anything with it or not, that's the ultimate respect. Being honored beside the likes of Chuck Berry, and Ray Charles.
When I first started playing, it was because I wanted to play what I wanted to. Not for "validation" from anyone. Payday is cool, but beyond that, it's an audience that's into it as much as you that makes you forget how much your mgr. is pinching off the top, and that A-hole in the back who don't have a band, but is always better than you. That is validation.
Not being inducted does not constitute invalidation, so why should that place have any monopoly on "validating" anything? Who "validated" the fucking hall?

Every legend in the hall validates the hall. It's only about the suits if you want it to be.

How would you feel if 25 -30 years later you were being inducted. Ya know, it's not so much to ask that you live on doing what you love. Surviving the bullshit of the industry to have the whole world turn around and say, "Yes, we want to remember you."

Fuck! Maybe I should've went into the music business...because my ass would be floating on cloud nine were I to get that kind of acknowlegement.

This attitude of "fuck it" is what's killed rock in the first place. You've got to be humble enough to accept recognition for what you do in life otherwise you end up with a self-induced bullethole in your forehead.

                          Who "validated" the fucking hall?
                          My sentiments exactly.
Kudos to Roth & Simmons & every other artist who doesn't kiss the corporate-ass R&RHOF.

The so-called HOF doesn't speak for me or my music. That VH wasn't inducted on the '1st year eligible' tells me all I need to know about this organization.

How many years were Sabbath eligible & not inducted?
The fuckin' Pretenders get in before Sabbath & VH? WTF?
                          Percy Sledge?
                          Jackson Browne???
                          The Dells???
Who the fuck are the fuckin' Dells? Beats the fuck outta me, but I'm going to venture a guess that CVH would mop the fucking the stage with the fuckin' Dells. Or Jackson Browne. Or the fuckin' Pretenders.

                          HOF my ass. Corporate-ass bitches.

Um, didn't Sammy also say that Van Halen needs to tour with Roth?

I mean, you can hate the guy and all that. But how many threads do we need that manufacture reasons?

Agree 100%. Some are saying that Sammy's quote of not being able to keep him away with a shotgun was directed at Roth. Sammy used the same line when they first announced that they were in, and that was way before Dave decided to not go.

Dave cheated us (which isn't like him). But maybe if the tour or album happens, all will be forgiven.

Usually, he does. Outside of the Front Line anyway

Seriously though, the labels did have a lot to do with it, which is why Ahmet Ertegun got such a great tribute at the beginning of the show. Also why REM made a point of thanking everyone at both IRS records and WB.
