I'm considering it for now, only because I've never seen them live. I've got loads of annual leave saved up and looking at one of the California dates (which is around my birthday) which might fit well with me. My problem, as most Aussies like me, would be $$$. I'm sure if I was able to see Classic Van Halen once before I wouldn't be bothering with it. Part of me is still negative and just see it purely as another patronising cash-grab.
So Are You Going To See it Or Not?

Yeah, I'll be going. Charlotte is about an 1 1/2 hours drive from where I'm at. Ironically, the last concert I saw there was VH back in 1992 with that other guy. I was surprised to see that Atlanta was not on the tour. Since the tour winds down before Christmas, I think ATL will be on the second leg after the New Year. That is, if all goes well. I'm glad CLT is first, who knows if there will be a 2nd show with this band's history.
As far as $60 tickets go, they were alot more expensive for the shows seen in Japan.
Classic Van Halen, you only live once!Last edited by tweeter; 08-14-2007, 12:35 AM.Comment

Yup.
I'll be there in Philly on 10/1.
I saw 'em back in '84, and I have to see those songs performed live again, with the ORIGINAL (and only) frontman for Van Halen...
No more Velveeta-fied versions of "Panama" or "Ain't Talkin' About Love"....it's time for the REAL FUCKIN' DEAL!Originally posted by perilouspete

For everyone who's not going or "on the fence" about it, would you go see Dave if it wasn't the Van Halen boys backing him?
If you answer yes, go.

I understand that a lot of people are excited about it. Opinions vary. Myself, you wouldn't be able to drag me kicking and screaming to this. December 1st they're playing at the Rose Garden and quite frankly I'm actually relieved that I have to work on that day, thus saving me having to make any excuses as to why I'm not going.
Whether it's David or not is irrelevant to me - frankly, I promised years ago not to support some half-assed Eddie Van Halen lead version of Van Halen, no matter WHAT the lineup looked like, if it was NOT CLASSIC VAN HALEN.
And this, kiddos, is NOT CLASSIC VAN HALEN. It's yet another version of Eddie's revolving door of supporting players, who Eddie wants Van Halen to be this week. David's taking the bait again, just like he did back in 1996, and this is going to turn out absolutely no better the second time around. Questions that remain to be answered are how much WORSE the big blow up will be this time and whether or not they'll even get beyond the first week of two of touring before something happens with Wolfgang that puts Eddie at Dave's throat.
I don't know what anybody else saw at the press conference, but I saw all I needed to. David can sell refrigerators to eskimos, but even he couldn't cover up for Eddie. "My new brother"...what a crock of shit...it was painfully obvious to me that Ed was faking his way through the whole damn thing and that right there told me everything I needed to know about this sham.
I am as much of a Van Halen and David Lee Roth fan as I have ever been, but I will not support a 75% Van Halen, no matter who that 75% consists of. Van Halen is David Lee Roth, Edward Van Halen, Michael Anthony and Alex Van Halen. Anything less simply will not do and I will not line Eddie's pockets for whatever he's trying to sell as classic Van Halen. Eddie Van Halen can fuck right off for all I care.Twistin' by the pool.Comment

And Bob I feel the same way about Eddie, but I'm not missing David again. I won't. My ticket money will be spent because David is there and I'm excited."If our country is worth dying for in time of war let us resolve that it is truly worth living for in time of peace." - Hamilton FishComment

Like I said in another thread, if you choose not to go, don't think you'll be doing some big service. That seat you're passing up will be sold to someone else.

I honestly couldn't be less excited. As a lifelong (well, almost) Van Halen fan, I really find the whole thing to be as underwhelming as it possibly could be. I prefer to keep my Van Halen "VAN HALEN" and I won't tarnish the memory of what it was for what Eddie wants it to be. My first classic Van Halen concert will feature all four original members and that's that. That's not "Mikey Love" - it's love for Van Halen's history and legacy and I truly feel it's being pooped on.
We can debate Mike's love for Sam all day and cite that as reason enough, and there's a good argument for that - but really, is ANYBODY fooling themselves into thinking that Mike would NOT be there with bells on if he was called, even now? Mike has a place in Van Halen as much as any of them do...he's been THE man on bass since the first album and before, and even if he's not the ORIGINAL bassist, he's THE bassist for all of his faults and positives.
If a real reunion never materializes, then I have no problem with that. I have an MP3 player loaded with the first six albums and all of the known bootlegs, so I don't consider myself any worse off.
I will say it again though, this is a train wreck waiting to happen. If it doesn't crash and burn within the next few months it'll be by grace of God alone. Make no mistake, I still love this band and the guys in it, but I won't be sold on anything less than...Van Halen...and this is simply less than that.
Bottom line is this - if Eddie can fake his way through a kiss and hug with Dave, call him my "new brother" and all, after all the years of shit between the two of them, he can absolutely do it with Mike as well. The fact that he won't means that he's just doing this to get Wolfgang's foot in the industry's door and he's using David to open it up. I'm not interested in supporting Ed or his son and THAT is what this tour is about, not the "Good Times Are Back!" that it's being sold as.Twistin' by the pool.Comment
