One more thing, and Bob you know I think you're cool-as-they-come but I have to ask you some questions...

Do you think Dave would care about you not going because of what you think is going to happen?

See, this is where I get confused with fans...they get way to emotionally involved with bands. People who don't even know they exist.

My point is that, if you're not going to this show because of what you think is going on inside a personal relationship that doesn't involve you at all....you're doing nothing but making a choice for yourself that you might regret.

Think of it this way, you've paid $60 to see a shitty show before, we all have. Why wouldn't you pay $60 to see David Lee Roth live? Especially when you couldn't control the politics of the band he's with even if you stayed at home.

I can see your point of view BB. I have had the same view for 22 years now. I have a feeling that Wolf actualy told the old man(Ed) you kicked ass with Dave!
Back in the bassplayer interview(96), bassplayer said, Edward wanted to do a couple of tunes with Dave for the fans. so, I am not sure that his hate for Dave is all what it was presented as. Sure, I remember the shit talking they did. But when your kid tells you he wants to jam the old tunes, you gotta be wondering and if they do sell very well, that would be like telling Edward, we want Dave also!

            VIP, all the way!

I would agree with that, except for the fact that it's been used since 1986 to justify Sammy's presence in the band as well. All the same arguments have been used on me to justify Sammy Hagar and to justify Gary Cherone and to try and sway me into supporting both of those acts as well.

                        Actually, I can't complain. Free internet...free telephone...free cable...working days again...pay's better...who could ask for anything more?

Appreciate the candor, Bin - I'm taking the odd-man out stance on this one, though. I decided back in the early '90's that Van Halen meant enough to me to NOT sacrifice or shell out cash for a lesser version of it.

I will say this, had 1996 and 2004 NEVER HAPPENED, I might be singing an entirely different song...

December 1st they're playing at the Rose Garden and quite frankly I'm actually relieved that I have to work on that day, thus saving me having to make any excuses as to why I'm not going.

Whether it's David or not is irrelevant to me - frankly, I promised years ago not to support some half-assed Eddie Van Halen lead version of Van Halen, no matter WHAT the lineup looked like, if it was NOT CLASSIC VAN HALEN.

And this, kiddos, is NOT CLASSIC VAN HALEN. It's yet another version of Eddie's revolving door of supporting players, who Eddie wants Van Halen to be this week. David's taking the bait again, just like he did back in 1996, and this is going to turn out absolutely no better the second time around. Questions that remain to be answered are how much WORSE the big blow up will be this time and whether or not they'll even get beyond the first week of two of touring before something happens with Wolfgang that puts Eddie at Dave's throat.

I don't know what anybody else saw at the press conference, but I saw all I needed to. David can sell refrigerators to eskimos, but even he couldn't cover up for Eddie. "My new brother"...what a crock of shit...it was painfully obvious to me that Ed was faking his way through the whole damn thing and that right there told me everything I needed to know about this sham.

I am as much of a Van Halen and David Lee Roth fan as I have ever been, but I will not support a 75% Van Halen, no matter who that 75% consists of. Van Halen is David Lee Roth, Edward Van Halen, Michael Anthony and Alex Van Halen. Anything less simply will not do and I will not line Eddie's pockets for whatever he's trying to sell as classic Van Halen. Eddie Van Halen can fuck right off for all I care.
:D Thank You for finding the right words to say for me. I'm with ya 100%

I'm ready to spare €500 for a return plane ticket + up to $120 for a concert ticket.
I'd even cross the Atlantic on a nutshell not to miss that.

I spent $75 to see Dave in a KC casino a few years ago and didn't walk away feeling ripped off.

What if Dave's right? What if they are all on top of their game and it rips? You want to miss that because of the Mike principle.

Mike's out. Get used to it. Maybe they'll bring him back one day if Wolf decides to do his own thing with people his own age, just like his dad and uncle did when they played with their dad. But for right now, Dave's in, he acts like he's totally at ease There was no talk of "baby steps" or any of that. They committed to the world during that press conference and to let the fans down would mean they might as well put the "gone fishin' " sign on the door and shut the whole thing down.

I've always maintained that I am, first and foremost, a David Lee Roth fan. As a David lee Roth fan, I would see him any chance I get. Full reunion? Never gonna happen.

Ed saying "my new brother" did seem forced, but Al on the other hand seemed quite comfortable with Dave and spent most of the conference laughing along with him. And, besides, affection from Ed for anybody other than Wolfie always seems a bit forced and he's always come across as a miserable fucker to me. Dave said they've been rehearsing etc since last October. Thats nearly a year. And they haven't killed each other yet...so...I'm a little more hopeful than I expected to be. Dave looked genuine. Al looked genuine. Wolfie looked bemused. Ed looked sober. They wern't separated like at the MTV Awards and they all...at least...looked happy.

So, if they come close enough, I'll be there. Or if I manage to win enough money to get over to the other side of the pond and see a show or 2, I'll be there also. I think Dave needs all the support he can get with 3 Van Halen's behind him.
