Dave looks fit, which carries over to his sound. Obviously he's back to the days of serious road work (running), probably at least five-miles a day...

Agreed, Dave's appearance and vocals make it pretty clear that he took the off season training very seriously. I am sure he had fitness and vocal coaches getting him prepared for this tour, unlike Fatgar who came into the Bore Tour looking like a bloated corpse.Originally posted by Nickdfresh

But I heard him on Stern like ten years ago, and it was apparent that his bloating was as much drinking related as it was him showing his age. I think he's become a bit of a heavy drinker-drunk --although I'm not saying he's a full blown alcoholic (like his old man was). He was drinking every day after sundown, which is his only restriction. That's probably why he sold the company --he was drinking a lot of the profits!
I think that may have played a role (ironically, as Ed was much worse for a while) in his firing from Van Hagar in 1996...Comment

I doubt it. Dave's always been self-motivated. I read in that new Van Halen book (don't bother, it's okay, but nothing special) that he was running six-miles a day in 1983-84 and worked out in the gym too, and that the "Jack-attack" was largely shtick (although he did drink at least some on stage)...Originally posted by topjim2y
did he have fitness guru tony little help reinvent the jackattack?Comment

Dave's look is fine for his age, but!! for some reason he does not look like the awesome rock god from years past. I know we all age. But guys like Jagger,Joe Perry,Rod Stewart, Ozzy,Steven Tyler,McCartney, etc still have that rock star stage presence. I love Vh with dave, but he looks out of a place on stage with the current look. Should Dave have grown the hair longer or add more hair? i know, i know who cares about how he looks as long as their rocking, but dave's look and stage presence was one of the dynamics of CVH!!
ok your examples are fine, but when has paul mccartney ever looked like a rockstar? he looks like a normal personR.I.P Van Halen 1978-1984

Yeah, he even brought his bike on the European leg of the 1984 tour. He biked through Stockholm with it.
I say he looks more dignified in this look. And less desperate than the bleeched, hair extsnsion style. He's not 25 anymore and he looks fresh and in phase with his age. But how many men has that upper body at that age?? We're talkin' six pack!
I know that sounded gay.. but he looks really fit. And I think he's got the glow. The "I am back where I belong" aura..The HammerguyComment

Yeah, I remember when Fatgar first joined the band and Mtv did a promo show for them. Hagar was in pretty good shape and if I remember correctly he had some ties with Ray BOOM BOOM Mancini. Apparently Hagar was a big fan of boxing. I could be wrong though. Damn, that was twenty one years ago. Getting old just sucks.Originally posted by Nickdfresh
