Every once in a while it seems as though I have to bitch slap the Hagar morons back into reality with the hard core numbers concerning everything that is Dave. Let the fun commence. VAN HALEN has sold 34 MILLION albums with Dave at the helm. They have sold only 18 MILLION with Hagar by comparison (this includes the previously reported updated certifications on several music sites that increased the Hagar numbers, another words it's current boys and girls). 5150 sold only a little more than HALF of what 1984 did (as I've posted several times) and the tour was not as big in terms of the number of tix sold. In addition, Dave's solo career looks like this--EEAS went platinum (actually it was close to double platinum) with a smash tour. SKYSCRAPER also went platinum with another smash arena headlining tour including a top 10 single for "Just Like Paradise". ALLAEnough went gold (I have a friend who works for Sanctuary and knows people in the biz, he says ALAEnough will be certified platinum the next time WBros applies for a certification audit) and Dave was still co-headlinging arenas on this tour in front of large crowds. Kind of puts a giant hole in some of the moronic posts/theories about "Dave not doing anything after EEASmile" In terms of VH doing better in the long run than Dave this happens with more or less every band. The band name in almost every instance does better than the singer or individual parts of that band. When Halford left Preist it was Judas Priest (not Halford) who was still playing amphitheatres in many cities and doing pretty well. That doesn't mean that Priest were bigger with Ripper because they weren't and Halford coming back this year will prove this. The only person I can ever remember becoming bigger than their former band is Ozzy. Much of that has to do with the fact that RR was writing songs for him and Ozzy got an incredible amount of publicity for biting the heads off animals. Aside from Ozzy though the band name will almost always do better than any part of it who goes off on thier own. Roth/VH was bigger than VHagar and Roth did quite well for a long time after leaving. The numbers PROVE both of these statements. Over the 90's yes Roth did have a drop off but after Hagar was canned from VH what the hell did he do? Not much is what. None of his post solo VH albums went gold and he was playing small places and not selling out. Hagar came to Universal about a year before the Roth/Hagar tour and only drew 2,800 in a 6,200 seat facility. Metal Sludge showed that Hagar tried to play arenas right after he was canned and he quickly realized his colossal blunder when the crowds weren't even close to half full. I vividly remember one show he did in a full size arena where he only drew around 1,500. You can probably find it on MSludge if you go back far enough but I doubt any of you will have the guts to check it. The bottom line is that Roth VH was bigger and Roth's post VH career if taken in full is bigger than Hagar's post VH tenure. THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE.

I agree with thetruthbaby about a major point here...........Dave had a VERY successful career for many years after leaving VH. People always mention how Dave went into the gutter after '85. Complete bullshit..........Comment
