Not trying to disagree with your numbers or anything... I looked for a link to actual figures in the original post but I guess I'll have to take your word for it. I like both Dave and Sam. In your terms I guess I'd be considered half sheep. I don't know that I would count album sales as the deciding factor in who was more successful. I would look at how the albums charted. Van Hagar had more #1 albums with VH (with less total albums). I'm pretty sure that Van Hagar's in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most Number One rock tracks at album radio with 11. I believe that 10 of those were with Hagar.

Diamond Mafia Forever - 4. To restore fullbug to the prominent place in this board, after various serious attacks by hitch1969 have now damaged his reputation and now is reguarded as a "Retarded, Stoned, Canadian, Dog finger bangin' fuckup"

Okay...so let me get this straight...the deciding factor for popularity isn't the total amount of sales...but whether or not they quickly went to #1...then disappeared...

Classic VH had staying power...they sell and sell and sell and sell and sell...

          Hagar VH...sells...then stops...

and all the members of VH said it during the Roth years best...

it's not about albums...we put out albums so we can tour...so their albums sound like they were onstage...rocking the shit out of you...making the songs not exactly radio friendly at the time...

Of course we know now that there are several songs that turned out to be radio friendly...because they were unlike anything else out there then...and since...

          and they brought it...

Essentially...you are making a case that top 40 bands should all be considered the top rated bands of all times...

Essentially...you are making a case that Van Hagar is BETTER than bands like Led Zeppelin and classic VH because they are in the guiness book of world records...

Essentially...you are an idiot...if you believe that...even for a second...

Don't blink...cuz these NEW pieces of Hagar shit will be gone before you know it...that's what they always do...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."

This thread was about the numbers, not who's better or worse but who sells. I'm disputing that as the deciding factor. I'm also saying that I don't see a link posted to the official numbers quoted in this thread. Not saying I don't believe it, but there's too many versions out there.
I'm not saying that top 40 bands should be considered the best of all time, but most of what supposed experts would agree are the best bands of all time have been in the top 40 at one time or another.
Van Halen I came out in 1978, 16 years before 5150. I know the reference was to 1984 and it's only a year difference between it and 5150, but the longer an album is out the more chance there is for it to sell more copies (obviously). The 6 Dave albums with VH have been selling for 26 years while the 4 (not counting the live album) Hagar albums have been selling for 19 years. That's 2 more albums and 7 more years. Not enough to account for the 16 million albums difference obviously, but to equalize the numbers would help Van Hagar a lot.
Led Zeppelin had very few "Billboard Top 40" singles because most of their songs weren't released as singles. I wouldn't say Van Hagar is better than Zep. I also wouldn't say that either era of VH was better than the other... it depends on the day and my mood. They're different and I happen to like them both. That doesn't make me an idiot, it makes me diverse. I do agree that Dave's stuff is much better than Sam's solo stuff.
Just because they said they put out an album so they could tour doesn't mean that's what happens. Concerts aren't the "event" that they used to be anymore in my opinion. Not too many artists that I would like to see can sell out a stadium these days. They aren't popular enough with the masses. I saw DLR on the YFLM tour at a small club in Pittsburgh. It may have been sold out, but it was a tiny venue by comparison to what he was playing back in the day. It's my opinion that Dream Theater is one of the most talented bands around right now. They couldn't sell out a large venue. Today's culture is different than it was when classic VH was big. The youth of today generally want rap and shit like that. You have to agree with that, just check out MTV for 5 minutes if you don't.
I come to this site to see what's up with Dave since I don't really hear much about him these days. If he was back in VH, you can bet your ass I'd be there to see it. If he played in Pittsburgh solo, I'd be there. But it's so hard to find any info about him on this site since most posts are anti-Sammy. It could be it's own separate site so that those who like Dave can focus on what's important to them instead of wading through the negativity.

The reason being is that the Sammy fans can't seem to find any intelligent conversation on any Sammy site or select other VH boards, so they have to come here. You can bet cho ass that they wouldn't be here whatsoever if it were Dave back in the band.

He isn't, it sucks, but the people here will live through and remember when they were kings.

Anti-Sammy is going to be what you get on a David Lee Roth/Classic VH site.

Makes sense to me. Sounds like the Links is the place for you.
