This news comes as no surprise at all to me. In fact, I was anticipating it for quite some time. Verbally. Van Halen is fucked and there's no amount of greatest hits tours and new band members that are ever going to be able to totally fix it.

Let Wolf go to school, apologize to Mike, get out on a outdoor farewell tour this summer and call it good.

That, of course, is the RIGHT thing to do...so don't expect it to happen...

Sadly, my instincts are to feel the same way.

Wouldn't kill the band to fucking TRY, though...if the downfall is inevitable, best to go out on their feet swinging than on their knees with a whimper.

I was thinking the same thing. Dave doesn't like sitting on his hands waiting for Ed to decide when they are going to make music or tour. If Dave is waiting past this summer for God, er I mean Ed to call him, he'll jump into some other project.

The Van Halen we all want is gone, dead and buried. The best we can hope for is the original 3. For me it's just Dave and Ed. I never liked anything Mike did on bass past Fair Warning...And Alex was inspirational on several tunes on the classic six... But nothing stands out after 1984. And Wolfie is just one of those things that doesnt belong, he's one of those things that's not like the others.

So anything they do put out will be shit. You can read it in Ed's interviews. It wont be what we expect from Van Halen.

Im only excited for a DVD release. With maybe some cleaned up unreleased shit put on a CD.

So you got 3 months for wolfie to graduate high school, Then he gets with the band and start recording an album and later in the year go on tour to promote it.

Wolfie doesn’t need college, all he has to do is stick with the band and he’ll be rich and set for life, at longs he plays his cards right and doesn’t fuck up. Eddie can also use the 2 unrelease tracks from 2000 to put on the new album.

Ed makes no mention of actually delaying a VH album for a 'number of years' because Wolf has to finish school. The author of this article that is referencing Eddie's recent interview decided to put a spin on it with the title There will not be a new album from Van Halen for a number of years because bass player Wolfgang Van Halen has to finish school.

By all accounts from what we have heard from Ed, is that Wolf is to finish HIGH SCHOOL, yes, but that is this June. Finish college before new VH album?? LOL!!

It's the fact spED is squandering ANOTHER opportunity, and making everyone else [DLR] live by HIS timetable, all the while making up ridiculous excuses as to why he's not recording and releasing "10 albums worth of material already in the can"

spED is a tool.

And Dave should work on another project, and test spED's "you can't be in 2 bands" theory.

But the original quotes attributed to Ed published elsewhere last week mentioned or implied that album work was a definate "maybe" this coming summer (2009).

Whatever tool authored this added the several years outlook, which no one else published as to having come out of Ed's mouth. Granted it's probably a more accurate reading of the tea leaves than Ed's little lead em on game... but like most... I'd rather they just waste a couple more months, add some sunny whhhhhheeeaather, and get busy this year... rather than let us wander the Happy Trails for years under the status quo...

There will be a new album, as they have 8 completed songs, from the 2000/2001 sessions. These tracks will be reworked, if they are as great As Dave claims.
Dave will always have great ideas for songs, which he saves for Van Halen. Dave`s 1998 album, DLR Band, would have been a Van Halen record, if they had stayed together. Dave had recorded a follow up to that album, but shelved it in late 1999, as he got involved in another reunion attempt. That unreleased solo album, was then used in the 2000/2001 sessions, with Van Halen!

Anyhow, yeah, I agree on all points.

Ed has never been known for his work ethic and was one of the main reasons Dave dumped him in the first place back in '85.

Ed is still a tool, yes, however, its probably a good thing we haven't heard new music from him since the Fagar 2004 tracks seeing as how he was pretty fucked up during those years before hooking up with Dave again. And I am sure Alex knew this better than anyone else, hence no new music.

The only positive thing now is that he SEEMS to have some his marbles back judging from his recent interview and his 'clean' look.

I can understand that Wolf has to concentrate on graduating from high school, which means studying for exams, etc. Kid got no time in the studio and I am sure Val will make sure he spends more time with his studies than jamming tunes for a new VH album. So, don't think for a second Mom made the call for Wolf to finish school first than make new music with Dad.

But then that throws the question behind having Wolf in the band if he can't committ to VH full time just yet.
