    OK...hypothetically speaking...Dave doesn't do the reunion...

...and EVH is basically starting from square one.

Is there ANY vocalist you can think of that would have at least intrigued you working with him?

Personally, I have always wanted to see what Pat Benetar or maybe even the Wilson sisters (Heart) could've done with EVH. We are talking some powerful vocals here, and the thought of a really good rhythm guitar behind EVH opens up some cool possibilities.

Hagar, Cherone, the usual suspects....nope. Been there done that got the t-shirts to show for it.

So who out there would you have liked to see EVH 'get creative' with?
With a rebel yell, she cries "more more more!"...

The answer is in your signature, Firebrand. I shit you not, other than Dave Roth fronting VH, I couldn't imagine a cooler guy to belt out CVH than Billy Idol. Think about it, how awesome would it be to hear VH rippin' through "White Wedding" or "Rebel Yell" as an encore? And if this sounds far-fetched, I'd point out that Idol does a passable version of "Jump" in his live set.

I never thought I'd see a performance where someone fucked up the lyrics to a VH song worse than Dave

That version of Jump wasn't too bad, I have to admit it would be cool to see Billy Idol play a gig with VH as a one-off deal.

Just now I had a thought about Glenn Hughes, the self-proclaimed 'voice of rock'. He would be someone whom would interest me as a potential singer.

And Glenn plays a mighty mean bass, so VH can ditch the chubby kid.

If Dave decides to bail, or for whatever reason it doesn't work out, am not necessarily opposed to EVH working with anyone by default -

Will judge it on the same basis I did for when Hagar and Cherone were in the band. Will give it a listen. If I like it, great. However, I doubt it's just a coincidence the only stuff Eddie's been involved with that I enjoyed was when Dave was in the band.

I'd like to see Roth and Ed mix it up with a new bass player and drummer, myself, and under a new band name. Think Ed just has too much of a safety net with the Van Halen name and his family surrounding him, and that setup isn't particularly inspirational.

In truth, I think Van Halen are just all done. I can't really consider them a band with a creative future that is gonna retain any interest for me. If Van Halen 3, the tunes for the Best Of Both Worlds album and that porn soundtrack stuff are indicative of where Ed's at musically, I'd just as soon see the CVH vaulted material released instead. Ed just seems washed up. He just barely pulled himself together for the tour, and had difficulty in consistently knocking his own material out of the park throughout the tour.

Yeah, I'd like to see them give a go at recording a new album, if only because it doesn't present the path of least resistance Ed is so comfortable walking on (slapping a bunch of logos on merchandise and doing a greatest hits tour is the lazy way out). My expectations for Van Halen's future are so low that if they never put out another album it ain't gonna be a bummer for me. In many ways, they were lucky to have reunited at all and did as well as they did (as belated and half-assed the effort was, even that was a long-shot considering where things stood in, say, 2005).

In some ways, I think "Van Halen" should hang it up now while they're still able to walk away from the field with a reasonable amount of pride and go out on a semi-"up" note. Am glad they did get back together to tour with Roth in one sense: while I think the Van Halens are a pair of world-class assholes, as a fan I didn't want to see the name and legacy end up on the note it appeared it was going to in 2004.

Ronnie James Dio might be a good fit.
Paul Rodgers might have been good on some songs.
Please no one suggest Joe Lynn Turner.
He had a couple good tunes with Rainbow but otherwise
he should have used his Barbie doll looks to make a buck.

The premise of the thread sucks balls.

There is no "reunion" on the table.

There has not been a "reunion" since '96.

There most certainly isn't a "reunion" for Dave to decline.

But we need to talk about something in between Muff Thread wanking sessions. Unless the Army has a health plan that covers carpal tunnel.

These type of thread have been around forever... usually the same suggestions of established artists are made.

Reality check... no other known singer in their right mind would sign to work with VH unless it was some sort of deal like Carlos Santana did with a bunch of various artists.

If Dave were to bail on the current thing... if there really is a current thing. The best odds of anything from the 3 Van Halens would be some kid Wolfie knows singing.

I don't really see why a name singer would be needed anyway. The Fantasy Football concept of putting together known rock stars in whatever "supergroup" combination doesn't really insure a great band will result...in fact, the practice usually has the exact opposite effect (certainly as far as Van Halen post-1985 is concerned).
